Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

.How would I set up a system like a local network or lan like college system whereby files are saved on the server and people can log into view them? And then download them

Just share the files/folders on the network

    This.

    Or FTP server.

You (may) need the copy of the windows cd (if it's xp) to add IIS service and then create it. But creating a network shared folder would be the handiest.

Create a folder. Right click and select Sharing. Done!

There are other options like max connections and if you wanted to see who is connected go to My Computer, right click. Select Manage and click on Shares. It'll give you the logon details of who's connecting to what.

Shared folder if you just wanted local access (IE machines that are on the network in the building).

FTP if you would like access to it from outside.(Say, your home machine).

If its on a remote server, install windows server on the server, then install and ftp server, or webserver, then share the folders you want shared by putting them in the correct folder, on apache(the webserver) you just put the ones you want shared into the http folder. I wrote a guide on how to do this last year for college but cant find it sorry :P

Ah, sorry OP missed out on the "web based" bit! My bad.

The guide I linked tells you where\how to put the files and share it out.

So the folder is going to be C:\wwwroot\inetpub\ftproot. Put the files there.

No, if you wanted something like that you would need to set up a VPN which is a pain, just set it up like a webserver, its the easiest way, click on file you want and it will start to download

You could use an FTP client like Filezilla to upload and download files.

    http://filezilla-project.org/

Very easy to set up. You input the IP\username\password at the top and it should connect.
