Custom short Cut keys?

Id like to be able to multi task using vlc media player..I was wondering is it possible to have a play,pause,forward short cut keys for vlc while your actively using another program..I know you can do this when using itunes but id like to be able to do it with vlc as well

You could create Automator workflows to do it for you.

This link will give you an idea of how to create the global shortcuts with Automator:

Each one would be written in Applescript.

Play:

  tell application "VLC"
      play
  end tell

Stop:

  tell application "VLC"
      stop
  end tell

Prev:

  tell application "VLC"
      prev
  end tell

Next:

  tell application "VLC"
      next
  end tell

The keys work with VLC but also work with itunes, so if you disable them somehow (would bet a lot of money someone did it, google around) then it should work.

Vlc has special keys - cmd-p to play/pause cmd-> arrow for next track etc in the playback menu.
