Nice bit of naval ship porn in Dublin Port for the weekend, Dutch '7 Provinces' class frigate Evertsen and Amphibious Assault ship (chopper carrier) Johan De Witt

A navy spokesperson has just commented that of the three new ships one will be filled with water, one with sand and the third with cement. For laying down heavy mortar support, he added. Right, I'll get me coat

Basically overweight, with a list, and software issues from memory, the German Navy has basically sent her back to the yard for more work before they'll accept her.

To be honest it's not just the German's with this issue, look at the USN (LCS, Ford class, Zumwalt's, Amphib ships)

I hear that Jonny Spaniard is trying to flog off their recently mothballed mini aircraft carrier and they're only lookin for 3 million euros for it. Sure ya could throw about a 100 million at it for a decent refit and it would still come in well under budget. That would be a ship that the navy would be proud to have.

Seriously this again? If you are talking about Príncipe de Asturias she's been sold for scrap and is flogged to death being even older than Ocean. It also serves feck all purpose for the Irish Navy. Seriously why are you even posting here?

Got to watch them Dutch boyos! They might be packin a few joints of Mariajuana in along with the auld Bofors 20 mm. Sure it's their secret weapon!

I'm referinn of course to the auld JSF (For them in the know about military mathers, like meself! The Joint
Strike Aircraft for the benefit of the non- cosciendente ( thank God for the auld predictive spelling). Hope yez all had a grand auld day wanderin around Jonny Dutchmans latest warship. Watch them f@@kers thought. I lived over there for 4 years and the auld landlord effed me out of me flat over Christmas. Luckily I had an auld mate who was in the Irish Rangers and we went over in the New Year and sorted him out big time! Ireland 1 and Holland 0.

    JSF = Joint Strike Fighter

the letters in an abbreviation are usually a good clue as to what words it represents.

Except in the case of the JSF.

    ...It better be stealthy...

I had a butcher's at 2 general purpose frigates in Malaga harbour yesterday. The Reina Sofia and the Canarias of the Spanish Navy.

Did you kick the hulls and make them an offer?

Does that work with Johnny Dago or Johnny Spic?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,100 ✭✭✭jonnybigwallet

I was just about to do that when Jonny Spaniard went " Olay Olay...Anchors Away! "

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,080 ✭✭✭✭Larbre34

Casual racism? Nah not so effective I find.

HMS Severn was decommissioned last Oct after only 14 years service and a few of her sister ships are also due to be retired early. These batch 1 River Class patrol boats might be cheap replacements for the peacocks?

I doubt the NS will go for them, in terms of the Peacocks one of the features highlighted is the shallow enough hull for "Coastal" work, the Rivers are deeper. More over when you have the fleet finally standardising in equipment you'd be adding more logistical burden. There's also the fact that the chances are that one of the Peacocks goes away to crew P64.

Them auld River class are a bit mickey mouse anyway. I had a butcher's at one a couple of years ago when it was moored next to HMS Belfast just next to tower bridge. Only a pea shooter as the main forward facing gun (20mm) if I remember correctly. Interesting it had a helideck which was quite handy. Better gettin something brand new to keep commonality with latest command and control software with P60 series IMO.
