fluorescent troubles

fittted some 5' twin corrosion proofs 2*58watt T8 w/magnetic ballast brand name 'alaska' gave me a load of trouble - working one minute ,not the next eventually i put it down to the end caps-anyone have this kind of problem -the voltage was ok and it wasn't the cold
