Just one note people. It says on spec -> "# Receives Digital Teletext and Electronic Programme Guide with MHEG5 Capable Receiver ". Correct my if I'm wrong but I don't actually see anywhere where it states that the TV has MHEG5 itself?

Again here -> "Your receiver requires MHEG5 to display Digital Teletext." and "Your TV/Receiver must feature the MGEG5 standard to run the EPG fully. "

EEKS! I read the 9th and 10th point as one -> "Receives Digital Teletext and Electronic Programme Guide with MHEG5 Capable Receiver" As in I need a MHEG5 capable receiver too! :o

Being annoyed at paying €350 a month ago aside, it’s a great Tv. If anyone wants more information or pictures of the picture quality just ask.

I’ve been singing its praises all over boards.

    • 3 year warranty for free, the named shops would charge €100 upwards for this.
    • ALL the connections you need and probably ever will need. I use the VGA connection to watch the online football on the big screen.
    • Plays mkv, mp4 and avi (that’s all ive tried) through a memory stick or an external drive.
    • Weighs next to nothing, like if you want to wall mount it or have an old stand, it won’t be dangerous due to the weight,
    • The menus are dead easy to use, some say basic, I say what more do you need.
    • The control is a bit big, but I suppose harder to lose it.
    • As someone said the on switch is somewhat hidden, everything is at the back of the screen, which I suppose is neater and you do get used to where the switch, headphone socket etc are.

Its also got a Ci+ slot which is more than can be said for the majority of large brand names 2010 series TVs.

Its as up to date as you can get right now, technology wise as in reception of Digital TV (MPEG4 and MHEG5) and CI+ and it plays H264 media files as a result of the processor on board. Given that there is alot of crap out there with redundant MPEG2 digital tuners, this is a clever buy, especially for the price point.

Unbeknownst to me, my da grabbed one this morning :)

Silly question -- where the hell is the power switch?! There's a thing on the bottom right-hand side (as you look at the screen) with a power symbol, but there's nothing to press  Does a flap open or something?

    Wierd

As you look @ the TV its on the left below the headphone and the red/yelllow/white connections.

After thats on, press channel up or hold it, as the TV starts in standby.

thereis also a physical "flip-type" switch on the other side. you need to push it doen to turn it on.
    like myself, I

If they're all gone so fast, you can be sure they will have another offer in the next 8 or 10 weeks. Also you can bet Aldi will have been watching this and are sure to have a similar offering shortly as well.

The instruction manual is pretty good if this is the same as the one I got in October. Basically press the 'Source' button on your remote. Use the up and down arrows to scroll through the choices. USB/DTV is for getting to the Digital (terrestrial) source, your cable/sattelite connection is under the EXT choice, your laptop is under the PC/VGA setting.

You will probably have to do a scan (as instructions in the manual will walk you through that) for setting up DTV also bear in mind that you will almost certainly need an external aerial for Digital tv, you may pick up old fashioned Analogue from rabbit ears.

Heres an thread from the last time it was on sale

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056100618

As I said in that, I put in a coaxial cable into the TV and a piece of metal in the other end of the cable and got all the free digital stations we get, RTE etc

Yeah I think it depends on your area, I'm beside Christchurch and facing East and can't pick up any digital with an internal aerial (or with a clothes hanger!) :pac: but will try to reconnect an old co-axial that I think is still connected to roof aerial as I'm dumping UPC thanks to FF cuts.

I couldn't get anything with a mad old aerial, but then that might be down to it being knackered.
Im sure if the aerials still connected you'll be getting the stations. I wouldn't touch UPC, kept them for dodgy box and then I went sky all over the house, UPC are basically only reselling sky.

    I still don't have a clue what I'm at.
There doesn't seem to have a USB/DTV option under the sources button.
We have a big aerial on the roof so surely that's good enough for Saorview?
All I have plugged in the back is the aerial we used for the old bog channels on the old tele, is that right?

What settings should I be searching under? There's channel, frequency and Network Channel Scan with options beside them.

Yes you have a rf/coaxial cable connected?

You need to go into new install and retune-Auto channel scan-im not sure here, but it wont take forever to try each option

    Yes that's the aerial.

I've done all the searches again. When I go to the manual search on analogue it says my signal strength is medium, but when I switch it to Digital search it says signal strength none. Any clue what's going on there?

When I got those channels it was with a coaxial cable and me holding a bit of metal, when I tried it without me holding it I got no channels.

Im sure theres a much more technical way to sort your problem.

I don't really know what ya mean by holding a piece of metal. I'm willing to try anything so any chance ya could upload of a pic of what you were doing with the aerial? Thanks for the help!

Right, I put in a coaxial or rf cable, the ole one say for the basic cable into the TV, in the female part of the cable I put the point off a nail clippers and held it in place with my hand and done the scan.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,848 ✭✭✭jeffk

It seems you or I or anyone earth's or helps the signal, I had it on there with a scissors in the cable and when I move my away from it, I lose the signal.

Still not getting it. So your holding that piece of metal between the aerial part going into the back of the tv with your hand and the tv? Is that right? Apologies for being a dummy.

hi clonladlad, from ur earlier posts u had a similar setup as myself beofre buying this TV, i.e old cathode TV with old ariel on the roof plugged into the back?
I removed all video recorders (i know!!), DVDs etc till all that was left was me, the old telly, the new telly and the coaxial aerial!

all i did was take the co-axial aerial out of the old telly and plugged into the new one....i let the new telly do automatic channel seerach/scan and all came in.....watching simpsons in HD!

I tried taking everything out- all the Scart cables and still no joy after the search.

I think I tried what you said jeffk. On the aerial that's coming from the wall I pulled the cable out a small bit so I could touch it with something metal. I got a knife and just touched it on the outer layer of the Aerial and did the search again still no luck. Am I supposed to try and stick it right inbetween the the two things? A pic of what your talking about would be much appreciated. Would all the channels not go when you take the metal out though?

does the old telly work if u plug co-axial into its back?
if so, it's not your aerial!

if old telly works, not meaning to offend you, but i presume co-axial is plaugged into "ANT" in the new telly?

if it is, press "menu", select "install and retune" and then scroll down to "initial installtion" and select OK and let if off....

Not sure if this is any help but I was just browsing the menu and went into 'settings', then went into 'Other settings' then there is an option for 'Broadcast type' under this menu.

I'm using a scart upc box connection myself so I cannot choose any option other than 'digital arial' but I presume / hope that this option may be useful to look at with regards your problem? Maybe set it to a setting from there i.e. an analogue / terestrial ariel and then see how that goes?

Me too, delighted with it. At last I have a telly with a 3 pin plug :D

Also picked up a €20 litre of Captain Morgan in Dunnes on the way home, another bargain alert, so I'm as happy as Larry here!
