    Hi All,
I turned my laptop on yesterday and I had all these security warnings about a virus attacking my computer. It has all my files infected. I connect to the internet through an O2 dongle and when I inserted it into the laptop it came up "your O2 connection is infected, load antivirus software".

My major problem is I cant load my antivirus as it is through an internet connecction which I cannot get. I recieved a CD with a Virus removal program on it from a collegue and I tryed to install it but at the end of the program the warning came up again file infected. So I cant even run the program directly to scan and remove virus.

Any help at all would be very much appreciated. I am located in Sligo if anyone knows any IT Specialist in the area that might help me. I did try ringing PC World but after been put on hold for 8 mins I gave up.

    thanks guys

Restart your PC and keep pressing F8 and select start with Safe Mode and networking.

Check Internet Explorer > tools > Internet options > Connections > Lan settings > Un-tick Proxy server if it is ticked.

Next download the following and install and do a full scann.

It will come back with what it finds, Virus and Malware. It will give you the option to remove. Once you removed them restart your PC as normal and hopefully its ok after.

Anymore problems have a Look here

Hello, sorry for late reply, had to wait till I got back to work to update you situation as laptiop still not working.

ran a scan, found 8 objects, and removed and rebooted computer. no change. Did the scan again and it found 3 more objects removed and rebooted and no change?????

I have been quoted by PC World €80 to get this looked at? Which to be honest I can't spare.

is there anythign else i can try??

Whats the name of the virus?-
start again in safe mode and check your registry for auto-run programs
    go to start>run
    type regedt32
    look for the following keys
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
    and expand these folders
    software
    microsoft
    windows
    current version
    run
in run look for an unusual .exe (often random letters) and delete the entry-see if you can also find that exe on your hard disk and delete

you will need to check HKEY_CURRENT_USER in the registry

Be very careful in the registry OP, (you would be better using msconfig from the run command) one slip and your PC could be fcuked, I would suggest downloading something like Avira free antivirus, updating and doing a full scan, then if Malwarebites didn't work get Spybot search and destroy from saferNetworking and do full scan again, let us know how you get on and we can take it from there.
