Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Is there any exciting careers you can apply for after the military for those people who like that extra bit of excitment in their lives?

If you're considering the BA becoming an ammunition technician can lead to a load of exciting careers, from bomb disposal to jobs in the arms industry. A UAV operator has experience in a rapidly expanding industry which will offer plenty of jobs, engineers can go onto exciting jobs if that's what interests you. Considering you'll be trained in arms and other areas private security is always an option but you'd want to move abroad probably, doubt there's much excitement in it here.

That's just a few off the top of my head, there is plenty interesting options out there.

Private military companies:cool:. But I would say you might have had your fill of exciting jobs after the military and go looking for a quiet life. The older you get the more you appreciate the safer jobs.

I have no experience with PMCs but from what I've seen / read / heard it's anything from training civilian forces such as Xe do to providing protection to clients ranging from escorts, site guarding to personnel protection. It's an extremely varied industry, what you'll be doing mostly depends on what clientele the PMC aims for.

a friend of mine - a former Royal Engineers Sqn Commander - works for a PMC that 'enables' infrastructure projects in third world countries for NGO's. he manages the compounds, commands the security force, and sorts out the logistics.

some of the projects require a big security profile within the role, some only require it to keep the rampant theft at bay - but its honest work.

True. The thieving is some places would make you long for nice cushy ballymun or Southill.Literally, unless it was covered in concrete, the natives would steal or attempt to steal anything that appeared to be unsecured. Half the time, prevention of theft actually slowed down the job in hand...

Serving in the Military seems to be a good way to get into the Fire Brigade, Ambulance and Gardaí. Those jobs these days seem to be shut for the school leavers.

    Hi there,
Because of the sports culture in the DF, there's always opportunities to get experience and qualifications in sports such as diving, parachuting, water sports, athletics and so on. Plenty of people from the DF have gone on to run adventure centres, become physios, work in the horse industry and so on. All you have to do is get involved.
