redundant apprentices

    a few mates were on to me about this.they think they heard something on the news.

    something along the lines of companys taking on redundant lads and fas/the government will be paying them.

    anyone hear anything along those lines?

    Im in phase 6 at the moment and the FAS lad told us they are looking at schemes like this.He mentioned County councils and the likes of the OPW taking on redundant apprentices and FAS paying the wages for 9 months or so.

    He also said they are looking at maybe introducing an skills assessment for lads in Phase 7 with no employer whereby you are given an exam over a number of days and if your work is up to a good enough standard FAS will give you your papers even if you havent served the 4 years

    Esb used to do it, they took on so many so they could finish their phase 5 and 7 so they could get qualified. Not sure if they still do. Best thing would be to ring fas direct and get your name on the list

    That scheme ended in December.

    Its a new one that is being proposed but as yet,nothing concrete
