I'm voting Sinn Fein, as they are the only party who are speaking up for the downtrodden and less fortunate in our society.

The other parties only seem interested in establishing the status quo.

So who wants to try predict cw/kk result?

    I'm gonna say 2 FG, 1 FF, 1 Lab, 1 SF

I'll predict the result as follows:

1 John Paul Phelan (shock on the cards???Might just happen.)
2 Phil Hogan (more than likely number 1 but will still opt for the upset)
3 Colonel John McGuinness (a man who turned on his own people and it is baffling to think he will still get elected)
4 Ann Phelan (lot of money spent promoting her and seems a decent lady)
5 John Cassin (the protest vote that might sadly scrape in because this guy is politically illiterate and his party have financial dealings that make Anglo look like a game of Monopoly)

which all comes in as the totals you guys above are predicting^^^^^^

I echo the above prediciton, except Deering will take seat number 5, not SF, who lost serious credibility with their 'Magic pot of gold' economic policies in the 5 way debate. .

This means, Phelan, Hogan, JmcG, Anne Phelan and Pat Deering will be my call, a refinement of my predicition of 1st of feb 2011 where I predicted the first three getting in with the last two battling it out with Aylward and Hurley.

JPP is now at 1/12... I got him at 1/2!

    BOOM!

Fingers crossed. It will be a cold, long winter in the McDabby household if JPP gets hit by a tram before the results are called.

    3 x FG / 1 Lab / 1 FF

i'm gonna say this, and i actually am not 100% on it because there is no carlow candidate, but i'll say in order

McGuinness, Hogan, A. Phelan, JP. Phelan, Funchion

  • Registered Users Posts: 95 ✭✭THE LINK WALSH

    It'll be

    Hogan
    JP Phelan
    McGuinness
    Deering
    Aylward

I reckon the McDabby's will be feasting on caviar for weeks to come... (and JPP alike)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,641 ✭✭✭andyman

Will be 3 FG, 1 FF and 1 Lab. Deering will have the majority of Carlow's vote (chair of the County Board and well respected) so I reckon that'll get him elected. Hogan (unfortunately), McGuinness, JP Phelan and Ann Phelan will get the others.

  • Registered Users Posts: 312 ✭✭Davidian_ie

1103 Carlow-Kilkenny: Tallies from Kilkenny only put McGuinness at 24.3%, Hogan at 22.7%, Aylward at 10.4%, JP Phelan at 14.9%, A Phelan 11.9%, Funchion at 7.3%, and White at 1.5%.

You can add John O'Hara and Johnny Couchman to the eliminated list.

Presume a lot of the Carlow eliminations will obviously go to Deering rather than Alyward and push him over the line.

I am going to vote for SF for these reasons:

    • I think the biggest factor to bringing growth and jobs will be sorting out banking system and getting rid of the stone that brings down confidence in everybody any time there's a news article about debt repayments, capitalising banks, writing off bad loans etc. etc... At least SF are calling for restructuring. They have trumped this card in GE11 and it's been hugely important 'cause I think it would have gone unsaid otherwise in debates. Looks like Enda was softening us for further blows in March me thinks...
    • I'm unemployed. I don't think FG are going to do much for my welfare. I know my welfare will be cut. I haven't heard anything concrete that they'll do for me regards creating jobs or training courses (Fás doesn't provide anything that would help me - I could use language certification and a retail course) . Again, at least SF are putting my concerns on the minds of others, even if it be from opposition, regards job stimulus and spending PRF in domestic economy rather than give it away as has been done... Actually, I'm wondering how pensions and welfare are going to be funded from 2025 which was its intention to fund an ageing population!!! So, that means heavy taxation in future to clean up private debt now...
    • The opposition is going to consist of 20 FF, 20 Independents, possibly 30-40 Lab(more likely not as they'll be in gov.) and 20 SF. FF are right wing, Independents are too fractured, Lab are in cohoots so that leaves SF as really my nearest representative in opposition so it would be in my benefit to see them in there.
I travel up to the North of Ireland regularly. I go to a predominantly Unionist area. No problems apart from around July when I do feel a little intimidated. But in general the peace process has worked. SF have to be respected for that as do the DUP, UUP, SDLP and more recently the Alliance Party. The Troubles were terrible and that's why they haven't been named The Fantastic Times. It has to be put in context of its time. The British released an apology last year for Bloody Sunday. So, voting in Britain would be wrong would it if I lived there? Apology or not they did extremely wrong too. But name calling and harking back to those complex times won't cure our ills of today in my opinion.

    Hope this makes sense...

Guess you happy with the great SF performance. 15 seats wasn't it. Will really put it up to Fg/Lab as they sell us down the river. All those who voted for them will pay a heavy price and I bet will scream the loudest when they feel the pain of their right wing, blame everything on the poor policies

End of the Alyward FF dynasty (for now anyhow, am sure they will be back). 3 FG td's and surely a senior ministry for the constituency for the first time in decades.

Great result, bar the fact that mcguinness got in (although he's better than aylward or a shinner), and that the senior ministry is going to the wrong person (hogan instead of JPP).

Just heard about Enda Kenny's "Paddy likes to know" statement. What is this guy on. The new regime has arrived. We've elected our very own George W Bush!!

In fairness to Hogan, as the man behind the FG electoral strategy, he deserves a senior ministry. If JPP is good enough his time will come.

We've already been sold down the river by FF, and Sinn Fein's economic policy is the stuff of fairytales.
