It's not really the same as a downgrade procedure, more of a re-installation. Have you tried installing the OFW via the recovery menu? This is of course assuming you've got the directory structure correct on your usb stick (usb:\PS3\UPDATE\PSUPDATE.pup)

Edit - go from CFW 3.55 to OFW 3.55, then to OFW 3.56 to be safe. There's reports of all kinds of things happening, mostly down to human error but you never know. An OFW update might look for something not present in a CFW & cause problems.

How to Access Playstation Recovery Menu

    1. Turn off Playstation®3.
    2. Hold The power button down; The system will turn on and turn off once again.
    3. Once the System has been shutdown, re-press you finger until you hear 2 consecutive beeps
    4. When you hear the 2 beeps take finger off power button.
    5. You will be promted to plug in your controller via usb and then hit the PS button
    6. The Recovery menu will pop up.

It's option 6 in the Recovery Menu.

You can still play online with 3.55, using the dns trick, not black ops tho

I wouldn't expect that to last much longer, the DNS trick always works for about a week after an FW update but that's about it.

It's the end of the road for folks who were using both PSN & CFW benefits. From now on, it's likely you'll have to choose one or the other. You can still downgrade from 3.56, but the console is stuck in service mode as the signed self file is now not in the whitelist. So frankly you'll need a nand programmer to do it right.

CFW will likely remove the new key calls in the future, but it will not run on anything past 3.55 due to a new key.

And I will be happiest man on the earth if it will stay like that. It might help preventing to what happened to jtag hack on xbox, all devs left it because the whole lobbies and other game modding for points, expierence etc.

    Cheaters = loosers :P

Agreed, modded consoles have no business online imo. Unless fail0verflow & GeoHot release that trasure trove of theirs (I know Geo can't now), there will be no cfw that works with PSN. Even if there was, the rootkit now runs code for PSN authentication, any hiccups will be easily noticed by Sony.

I'm delighted to be honest, we can now concentrate on the actual firmware rather that "lulz i haz psn sonie got pwned" God some of the other forums really make me question people sometimes :p

    Why not Black Ops?

    Works perfectly for me.

    Why not Black Ops?

    Works perfectly for me.

Some Black Ops players have had their consoles permabanned from the Activision servers...I think the reason is clear (cheating/pirating/both)

Are you still on PSN with CFW 3.55?

I am still on CFW 3.55 and using DSN for Black ops, never had a problem yet.

I know PSN wont last forever, but when it goes ill just get a new PS3 for my black ops, or ill get a new Xbox and sell my black ops on Adverts or ebay.

Oh really? I'm surprised the dns trick is still working after this long, they prob won't bother the normal securing methods though for much longer. I'd say the login authentication check will dispell the need for any other measures.
