Text message delays

Hi I got the new HTC Desire and although happy with it there is a delay in getting text messages i.e. 2 messages yesterday, one sent at 17:51 received at 21:30, and then I got my wife to text me at 21:35 and it went off around 01:30. I have just switced to emobile.
