Just a heads up my week is slammed as I've had to take over a few training classes on very short, actually NO, notice. Couple that w/ 2 family birthdays, my wedding anniversary, and being outta town this upcoming weekend.... well. I'm busy.

The map is nearly done for the full blown CYOA revamp - just not had time to finish up.

Don't want peeps waitin' on me so please skip me if it comes to that. Thanks!!!

Happy anniversary to you both. :)

I may be able to write if/when it gets to me if I don't die in the story by then (if you die you don't write, am I correct?). Will speak up when/if my turn comes around.

All - A week later than I planned as I lost my original and had to redo some things. This map looks worse than the first, but oh well. It's a start.

My main challange is scaling this so it can be read but isn't too big. Right now is scaled to a 19" monitor - I can post it bigger via imageshack and then you can zoom in a bit.

Anyway - SORRY its taken so long but here ya go. Check it out and let me know. I'll be trying to get caught up on things on the forum. Apologies I've been outta touch lately. Feedback appreciated!

Looks awesome! dont worry bout not being around too much I've been keeping an eye on things :P

the only problem is I dont know how to see it in a full screen kinda way :S I can zoom into it but not to the 19" that you talk about, and obviously when I ctrl + it it gets distorted :P

so really the only problem in this instnace is my stupidity XD

    Thanks SUNGOD.

As anyone can tell w/ a bit of looking - this is simply a map of Sioux Falls, South Dakota USA w/ a Harbor and water added to the south end and some other odds and ends added in. I wasn't sure what else to do so I went with what I know, since I live there - and no my house is NOT in the walled in area. :D

But - feedback please. Is it too much? Too big? Too small? Too little detail?

I've got the story ready to go - just need to make sure we are ok w/ the map, etc.

    I think it's awesome. Wow.

The detail is good - we can see where important resource buildings are, where possible means of escape are (the harbor and the airport, if one could steer a boat or fly a plane). I definitely think this will help aid in the story.

Good job, Dakota - and thanks for putting the effort into it! :)

Crikey! That's amazing. I'll have to print it out at work.

One question, Dakota - no need to amend the map, but would there be islands within e.g. swimming distance of the harbour?

Good point wavehopper - IF you are able to make it over the containment wall I'd think there would be small islands. I'll also color up the map a bit more for the water.

Didn't Goodoak choose death and is now a zed in the story? If so, does that take him out of the rotation? Maybe I misunderstood, but I thought if you died, you didn't write.

I don't know where I came up with that then...I'll blame the fact that it's early where I am, so I must not be thinking clearly...but at least you like it. :)

Just wondering, where are we being dropped off? I'm guessing it's meant to be a 24 36 or 48 hour operation and where's the collection point?

or is this to be decided by the next author?

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 6,869 ✭✭✭Mahatma coat

I Presumed we'd just be booted out of a plane at 10 tohusand feet and hope that we land somewwhere reasonably near the target on a nearby roof, but knowin our luck we'll end up at the Reserve Guard barracks :(

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,394 ✭✭✭DakotaYoda

Good questions. I'm trying to leave it open ended to let writers decide the time frame. You'll have limited ammo and other supplies, aside from what else you can scrounge up.

To start you'll be deposited at the Ashley Campbell Memorial Airport. :D
The collection point will also be the airport, unless someone figures out another way out.

EDIT: Also - any suggestions for alternate gear for our soldier? This is simply the standard combat load for an American platoon rifle squad leader. It seemed generic enough.

Well seeing as you've based it on a Generic American Soldier I might recomend one piece of essential european Kit oft lacking from your nations Military forces

    A Modicum of Inteligence :D:D:D

Does that mean we cant use classic lines like "BRING THE RAIN! WHOOHAAA!!!!"

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,394 ✭✭✭DakotaYoda

Yeah, I think the nationality bashing can desist.

I may be a Yank but that doesn't mean our character is. He's simply carrying a representative combat load.

I've no specific love for soldiers but I generally respect what they do. I'd guess most soldiers worldwide are roughly the same really, so where they are from is a non-issue. No reason to dwell. It's not their fault the decision makers lack common sense and decency. Move along...

Anything pertaining to the CYOA stuff?

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 6,869 ✭✭✭Mahatma coat

Yeah, fair enough, I'll leave off the Yank bashin (for a bit ;))

is this a Time Critical extraction or is the extraction team geared up to go on your signal??

how does this radio communication system work?
is it they send - you hear only/you send only - they hear, if its the latter can you call in Artilary/Airstrikes

have there been many previous Military incursions, if so what happened to them? Z's or Disgruntled survivors?

I presume the big black line on the map is the Boundary

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,394 ✭✭✭DakotaYoda

    1. Non-time critical to start. Extraction team on standby as soon as you ar inserted.
    2. Radio is send ONLY and can only be used for extraction. No other support available. May not be realistic but... well we're talkin' bout zombies here right? :D
    3. No organized military insertions have been made yet. All resources were spent to erect the wall and contain the infection.
    4. Yup - big black line is the wall

    whats the purple dotted line???

Ahhh.... thought that was in the map key/legend but I see its not. That line is a paved walking/bike trail. It existed on the map so I just left it there.

Unknown for certain but the remaining survivors are most certainly more active during the daylight hours and they may have more accurate intel since they are on the ground.

dakota cn you explain the option in your post for "posters to post here"
is it just to keep a record of the story and who can access it?
i posted my CYOA story ,time of day, inventory etc in this and also on the main page , was i right to do this?

Yup, yup - the form is just a front end to what is pretty much a spreadsheet in google docs. As I mentioned previously, I will give anyone access to it that wants it. I believe the only caveat is that you need a gmail account to access it. Once you have that just PM me your address and I will get it shared to you ASAP.

And yeah - submitting into the form was the right thing to do. It doesn't post it to the boards.ie or anything. Just keeps it in a spreadsheet for easier reference rather than flipping back through all the pages of previous posts.

Let me know if my pre-coffee rambling doesn't make any sense. :)
