Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

what programmes are not available on free to air/satellite dish that are available on upc and sky

i presume setanta and sky sports are not available but the likes of rte,bbc and channel 4 are available

would like to clear this up as i think the dish can be got for around 100-200 euro. not sure if paying 25+euro month is worth it long term.

    thanks

A list of FTA channels that are available from the same satellites that Sky use can be found here:

    and the Saorview channels here:

Yes - RTE, BBC & Channel 4 are all available for free. You will need a dish and an aerial, and possibly a new receiver as RTE is not currently free on satellite.

There are already plenty of threads with the same or similar questions on these forums. There is no "one size fits all" solution unfortunately.

    thanks lads.

are sky and upc the only options for package deals so

there doesn't seem much point in the free to air now

Depends what you're looking for. Some channels are available on line. For example, I subscribe to Eurosport player for my sports. It costs just under €40 for a year, and can easily be hooked up to my TV to watch it there. It gives me both Eurosport 1 & 2, plus the HD channel, and often has many others on an event by event basis (they had 6 courts available to watch during the Australian Open tennis, more than I'd have gotten with a Sky/UPC sub). 9 out of the 10 most watched channels are available FTA, Sky One being the only one not available, so FTA is a pretty good deal. I can't see myself going back to pay TV since I've gotten used to the FTA options.

What FTA channels are available for a pc/laptop with a tv tuner

Is there a complete list of tv channels which are available online either FTA or subscription

Forgot to ask if an event(football/boxing match or movie etc) can be purchased and viewed online as a one off(pay per view). if it could I might use FTA rather than commit to a contract with either upc/setanta/sky

    thanks for the help

My wife watched her tennis at ungodly hours on Eurosport Germany via satellite.

If you want Sky Sports, ESPN, Setanta, Discovery Channels etc you need payTv.

If you want general TV, then there is plenty FTA. Between Aerial + Dish about 50. Add 13E and 19E and you add a few more such as Arte, BRAlpha, BBC WorldTV, Eurosport Germany, Foreign interest stuff part time in English. A few random sports channels (but no Premiership type stuff)
