    Hey guys,

Looking to throw something together, and i more or less have the idea in my head, but what do ye think would be the best bang for your buck cae & quad-core cpu for this mobo:

    http://www.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=ogZlrSeVzUh9MKLO

When i say bang for your buck i mean cheapish with good performance :)

    Cheers

Do you already have the Mobo?

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,983 ✭✭✭Tea_Bag

i hope not. i wouldnt want to be buying into old sockets now...

The real problem now of course is:
    • If you buy quad-core your going to have to replace the mobo and cpu as you won't have an upgrade path.
    • If you go Intel i5 or i7 your cpu will keep you going for a while but the current mobo's will be recalled due to issues with the sandy bridge chipset.
Have the latest mobo's based on the Intel sandy bridge chipset been fixed? If not, I guess AMD cpu's and chipsets might offer a good alternative?

if your considering buying this board don't
get a socket am3 if your going for a AMD or a socket 1156 or 1155 if your going for intel.

but if you already have get a core 2 quad qx6700 which go for pretty cheap these days.
and as for a case i'd recommend a coolermaster elite 430 if your on a budget.
i can recommend other cases but i need to know what your looking to spend on it.

Intel are working on a revised chipset design. Anyone who has been affected by the issue gets a replacement.

Ah, no, its a mate of mine who has the CPU to go on this mobo. Im just throwing it together for him, for free, but i have to supply some of the parts, erego, cheapish but not so cheap he is going to come back in 6 months and throw it back at me :)

Im not entirely sure theres anything wrong with this mobo? Perfectly adequate for some peoples needs. Besides, currently i have a Dell 0WG855, does the trick :P But ya, me, i will be going 1155, but in 6 months when im sure nothing is going to be recalled :P:D

your best bet is to buy one oem or used on ebay or something cause since they stopped making core 2 quads the price of the box versions new have sky rocketed

    i'd recommend this:
    http://cgi.ebay.ie/Intel-Core-2-Quad-Extreme-Edition-2-66-QX6700-/370475562351?pt=CPUs&hash=item564210756f

but if you have to buy new i'd go with this:
    http://www.pixmania.ie/ie/uk/2772524/art/intel/core-2-quad-q8400-2-66-gh.html

    and i'd reccomend this case:
    http://www.dabs.ie/products/coolermaster-elite-430-black-7B18.html
and if theres any cash to spare i would add another 120mm fan to the case ;)

Covered with the CPU ;) he already has a Q6600 from his shoite box (as do i). Was just thinking ahead in case i decided to keep this mobo and give him mine :D:p

That case is full of win though :pac: Might be able to stretch to another fan too :P

yup better than most cases in 50ish price range apart from the NZXT M59 and the Antec Two Hundred but there both ugly as sin imo (great airflow tho)

The case you recommended is definitely good enough ;)

    From my experience, terrible. :(

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,185 ✭✭✭IrishMetalhead

yea sorry i didn't notice it wasn't in stock so you'd be better off getting a different fan
    this one looks good:
    http://www.dabs.ie/products/xigmatek-crystal-120-blue-led-fan-77QG.html

or if you buy this one and mount it on the front and move the other one to the back you'll have some amazing airflow:
    http://www.dabs.ie/products/xigmatek-xlf-f1454-led-fan-77QN.html
does cost abit more tho =/

Have a tuniq 120, interwebs says it's quite good.....

Would you not sell that q6600 and put the money towards the budget so you can get a better build in the end? At this stage I think it would be silly to build around a 775, if looking for something cheap/good go am3 or if can stretch a bit more sandaybridge (when sorted though).

I only got mine a few weeks ago and my mate doesn't want to spend a fortune, so it's a happy medium. Besides 775 stuff is so ridiculously cheap on the 2nd hand Market that IMO it'd be madness for a non gamer like him to buy anything else. The foundations are in place.

Me myself, I will go newer but later in the year, when the price comes down. For now I'm quite happy to build around what iv got, no use spending more than you have or need to.:D

Actually ya, decided to go with a q6600, so he can keep his machine for a media centre. Also thinking of a coolermaster 430, provided I can fit a tuniq 120 in there......
