Where can I buy black beans and pinto beans in dublin?

Tesco Clare Hall certainly sells black-eyed beans (I imagine that is what you mean) and pinto beans. My local Dunnes is useless.

Thank you for that information. I tried looking in Dunnes in teh blanchardstown centre yesterday to no avail. The black beans I'm referring to are these

You can get great value black eyed and pinto beans in ASDA too - I know it's not Dublin but they're fantastic if you're ever up north.

As for Dublin, most Tesco stores stock them but you can also get them in pretty much all health food shops - generally just the dry version.

Asian Markets, especially ones that specialise in Pakistani/Indian food are great places to pick up beans. I haven't spotted any tinned black beans (however, also haven't been looking) but I have picked up bags of dried black beans in a few of the asian markets on Parnell Street, the ones I get come in an orange bag. Pinto beans I haven't seen, but they could also stock them. (and by black beans I mean the ones below and not the black eyed peas/beans)

Thanks for the info. I'm trying to get my hands on tinned black beans.. I haven't got the time/patience to do the 8+ hour soaking process. Looks like I'm going to have to give up on canned black beans or canned pinto beans in dublin.

There's a Mexican place in the Epicurean food hall that might have tinned pinto beans (or be able to tell you where to pick them up), they have a few shelves of Mexican staples, great for chilis and stuff. They definitely have refried beans

Thanks I will have a look there tomorrow. If there is a place in Dublin that sells canned pinto beans or canned black beans, I will find it!

I've just had a very good idea which may make the dried beans an attractive proposition. Is it possible to freeze the beans after making them? What is putting me off is spending 8 hours soaking them, then cooking them. Thats a lot of work for a plate of beans. I'm thinking I can make them in bulk at the weekend and then freeze a few portions in the freezer and eat them during the week. Is this a good idea?

No, what you're after is black turtle beans. Tesco sell them, dried.
Tesco also sell tinned and dried pinto beans.
Yes, you can freeze cooked beans

Absolutely no problem, I have done it many times, with black beans, chick peas and others. These people have had no problem either. I would also second what they say about freezing portion sizes as they is much easier to deal with later.

You can get them at the Dublin food co-op. Dried and in a tin.

You could use a pressure cooker as this saves a huge amount of time. If I remember right it took about an hour to do beans this way.

They have them in health food shops. In the blancardstown centre on the same level as dunnes food part, near the butchers there is a health food shop which has them. Opposite o Briens.

I stumbled on this thread in search of black beans in Dublin.
I managed to find tinned ones in Evergreen grocer on Wexford St, close to Whelans.
Only 1.20 a tin, so not bad. And always good to support the little shop

Btw they have pinto beans too
