Im about to buy a 40gb PS3 with no blu ray drive on adverts, I currently have a 40gb model (ylod) with a working bluray, can i just swap the drive over or is there more to do to get it to work??

You can only do that if it comes with the original drive controller board. Assuming it's this one, the guys second comment suggests that these do not include the daughterboard for the drive. These are console specific so without it it's a no go.

You also have to ask why the drives are not in them, there may be something else wrong, like a broken ribbon connector on the mainboard or something, otherwise why would it be sold without a drive, you will also have problems updating etc without the drive board.
