I haven't a clue about this game but I'm looking for a game to sink time into over Christmas and this looks cool. I've read that it's fairly unforgiving though, so how hard exactly is it? Is there any links that a complete Dark Souls newbie should look at before playing it?

http://darksoulswiki.wikispaces.com/Game+Progress+Route and nothing else. It's a suggested path through the game, nothing more than area names, if you head somewhere not on the suggested route try it by all means, but following this is a good guide.

I've no idea why but I expected to be eased into the DLC. Nope, must have forgotten what game I was playing.

This is prob what the Dark Souls devs look like at the end of every creative meeting coming up with new enemies and areas.

Lol I didn't even think of that. Are the binoculars the most pointless item in the game, they zoom in about three feet.

Pretty much yeah. Same zoom as the bows I think.

Or the pendant could be considered the most pointless item. Or best, depending on who you ask.

I havent invaded anyone in my game yet, I stay hollow most of the time anyway so rarely get invaded myself. Is there anything else to it aside from being human and using one of the cracked red eye orbs? must give it a try later.

That's pretty much it. There are also covenants which will give you items that let you invade as much as you want.

Having said that, unless you've built your character specifically for PvP you'll probably get your ass handed to you a lot of the time.

What do you lose if you invade and are killed? souls or specific stuff? I have sod all souls at the moment so not much to lose lol

You don't lose anything but you will have to pick up your bloodstain so be wary of where you are when you invade. What level are you? You could go to the forest where the door that opens with the crest of artorias is, drop your white summon sign and try get summoned.

You'll probably be summoned by someone who is pvping. From there you'll see the best, worst and funniest of the multiplayer side of the game as the forest is just a lawless battleground. You'll be one shotted by high damage builds and hackers, cheesed by others, stun locked, lag stabbed, pyroed and in between you'll have some great fights with decent players.

Then next play through you could try specialized build and co-op/invade in other areas that don't have a huge asshole population but you should definitely try the forest to see it all.

Not sure about other covenants but dickwraiths lose nothing after a loss, just gotta pick up your bloodstain.

We just want your humanity is all.

Ugh, PvP in the Forest may just turn you off Dark Souls! It's the Lordran equivalent of the Youtube comments section! People are just AWFUL in there. A nicer intro to PvP may be joining the Blades of the Darkmoon covenant. You won't be invading as frequently as the Darkwraiths, but at least you'll be more likely to be fighting people that aren't specialised for PvP, so you'll have a fairer fight. Punish the guilty!

Or he'll be waiting days for any action. I'd still vote for the forest even though it is a cesspool. Maybe at lower levels in his next playthrough he get more people looking for help with Sif and less idiots.

And besides, Anor Londo has just as many gankers waiting for the dark moons to show up.

Have the devs made the gaping dragon harded on the pc version or is it just me? I'm playing on pc for the first time and I just can't seem to beat him, constantly being one shotted even if he just brushes against me. I've beaten him 5 or 6 times on xbox and never really had any problems

    Gankers?

Gankers are Groups of two or three who hang around an area just to spank invaders.

Twinks are low leveled players with high level gear. The bad kind invades and destroys noobs while the good kind try to get summoned and fight the bad kind.

Ah ok, does your summon sign only work in certain places? i put mine down a few times and it just disappears not long after

You have to stay in the area you put it. If you cross a threshold where there used to be a fog wall it disappears as you've entered a new area. Other things like movable platforms you can't put the sign on. Best place to put it would near the last bonfire on the way to a boss.

You also have to be in a similar level range to be summoned so depending on your level you would be more likely to get summoned in different areas.
