Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Really Stupid Question

Howdy y'all. right....hummm i better get this over with..Im currently reading a photography book. It talks about under/over exposing by a number of stops. Now on my camera when doing this is a stop the small notch or the bigger notch/number?
    for example in this DSLR-A350_back_lg.jpg
Is a stop the actual number or the notches inbetween?
I would imagine its the number...
(Ps I do know what a stop is etc etc, i usually just work by 'feel' rather than a measure which now want to know more about).
    thanks :D

Directly under 'F5.6' on the LCD in the image above.

+1 (on the RHS of the scale) means over-expose by 1 stop.

-1 (on the LHS of the scale) means under-expose by 1 stop.

The small notches in between each full figure represent 1/3 stops.

the number is the stop, the notches are each 1/3 of a stop.

And if it helps get your head around it, a stop is a doubling (or halving) of the available light:)
