Getting into BMX

Ok so I've kinda made a leap of faith here and have decided I wanna get into bmx riding. Decided I need to get off my arse and do something these days and Ive always loved watching bmx. Basically I decided I need to get a bike for getting about and wanna get into bmx at the same time.

So I need advice on bikes, any good shops around South Dublin. I presume hitting a specialist shop would be a better call than getting some generic yoke from a big store etc.

There's some good parks and things around where I live and I can remember some spots that I used to skate, where I can start practicing at before I hit them. But any general pointers would be really appreciated.

There is a big BMX scene and lots of riders. Chuckies in St Annes park bushy park and greystones skateparks are the main spots. Go to http://www.theboardroom.ie/ they are in greystones they are a rider run BMX shop and will sort you out with a quality bike.

The bmx scene in Ireland is exploding, you couldn't have picked a better time to get into it.

I'm not too sure about shops in Dublin but I know of two good shops in the south east. Try buy a 100% Cromo frame and forks.

Been riding BMX in Ireland for the past 11 years. There was a small scene when I started way back then, and its grown way bigger, especially since the skateparks have opened and the opening of www.theboardroom.ie putting on Jams, comps and more or less being a hub for BMX on a national level has helped out lots too. Just give the guys a call there and ask them whatever questions you have. I've ridden with the guys that own the shop for the past 11 years and you couldn't meet a nicer, more pair of guys. The Boardroom is a good start for finding out about riding BMX.

Here are some pics I've taken of one of the guys that owns the shops. It's pretty obvious from the pics they know what they are doing regarding BMX.

Some great pics there Pete! And not just the bmx ones, I've a lot to aspire to with my photography!

I've often thought about picking up the bmw again, have a Haro Mirra 540 Air that needs a bottom bracket and crank set (and a better gyro cable) for it to work again.

in the same boat myself, had been talking about getting back into the sport for a long long time, used to ride some of the smaller sets in st annes when i was younger.

was gonna buy a dirt jumper hard tail but theyre so expensive, didnt wanna pump 800 into a bike just to sit in my shed and not use, so i went onto chainreaction and bought a 2010 eastern cobra for 240 delivered, reduced from 340 as it was the 2010 model.

i live beside clongriffin skatepark so gonna give that a try and gonna give st annes a look in aswell.

only bikes i ride these days are motorbikes so should be interesting for the first few spills i have!
