Just wondering what I get when I join O2? I'm going to be switching as soon as my Three contract is up in April because Three is a load of (you know what)...

Any info would be great, thanks.

    :)

Benefits of O2 at the moment?? Let me think...

For starters they'll help ease the weight of your wallet slightly. Then they'll ensure that you'll have more spare time by helping you cut down on your phone usage, particularly if you like browsing the web, as they specialise in ripping off their prepay customers and decreasing their allocated allowance to billpay users.

O2 are a joke at present, steer well clear.

If you ring mostly o2 numbers, then o2 will be best for you as you can get unlimited free calls and texts.

They have international webtexts, only other network is VF that have this.

O2 credit doesn't expired, and no requirements to topup every 6 months etc.

They also have the 'treats' which a lot of people use. The irish rail offer was heavily used by boards users.

Granted the no prepay addon is a major no, but you have to look at both sides and compare with your usage needs

Thank you for adding a bit of balance to my rant there!

Ranting aside, and all things considered, as it stands I would not recommend someone moving to O2 with one exception; if the majority of your contact is with other O2 customers then it's obviously the best move.

OP, why are you committing to O2?

The only reason to change to O2 is that that is the only signal you can get, and even then Tesco is an option.

But not to any network! For example, texts to E-Plus (Germany) do not get delivered. Text E-Plus from your mobile and O2 will charge you for undelivered texts - without even informing you that they were not delivered.

They should at least list on their website which networks you can text to.

It does expire if you don't use it, but all you have to do is use the credit to do anything chargeable, such as a call, sms or picture message or even data, once every 6 months

I dont see that as the credit expiring, thats the account be closed because the number has to be recycled as specified by comreg. All networks are obliged to do this.

Credit expiring is if you are using it, but after a certain period it is removed as you haven't used it in X days since you bought it. This is decided by the network.

The old O2 PAYG offers are /were really competitive. I have an early bird option active which is 15 cent a minute peak with I think 9 cent minimum charge. Ideal for some. My credit spend was very little in general due to my usage. I have since switched to meteor on billpay with another number and the bills have rocketed in comparison;)

Idk 20 euro with free texts and call on meteor lasts me a month. Using Internet daily. Till it runs dry. Not going on BP till i actually get some value out of it for signing on a contract.

On o2 20 wouldnt last me long.

I would say if most of the people you call are on o2 then switch to them otherwise stay well away. They have become in my opinion the least competitive network and they have been treating there customers like crap over the last 2 years. They have gotten rid of been able to use your minutes in northern ireland, screwed people when there upgrage was due by changing the upgrade terms, refusal to bring in a data plan for prepay customers even though customers have been calling for it for years and all their competitors have introduced them but the worst thing they have done is to decrease the data allowances on their advance packages but then decide to charge more for it (their logic in this baffles me and shows what they think of their customers). On top of that they promote how good their network is however one of the reasons I left them was because their coverage had become terrible.

They spent huge amounts of money on cool advertising and their treats offer, however I'm sure people would rather better plans and better offers regarding extra top ups etc and a decent data plan on prepay as other networks are now offering.

I was one of O2's biggest fans and the above reasons have totally changed my mind about them.

I have to agree with woodzie. I wont upgrade with them again as the have changed the pricing up of the plan i have and the data down. They are very expensive. There customer service used to be very good but now seems full of attitude. I have no problem with the network. I believe o2 are living in rip off ireland still. When my contract is up im moving to prepay on 3. With all the extra taxes and interest rate hikes i want to save money and cutting my mobile bill from average of 60 a month to 20 a month is a no brainer.

Don't forget the 500 odd retailers around the country they also shafted. o2 are dirt in a lot of peoples books.

Quote comreg on o2 and their pricing "tacit collusion possibly existed between O2 and Vodafone"
The European competition authority is dragging o2 through the courts again for price fixing in another country at the moment.
They've ripped off anyone they've touched from Charities to the ordinary man in the street. They've also financially blacklisted more customers than any other network here.
I'm surprised they've any customers left.
As a good friend said to me, he's rather be up on a murder charge than on o2.

  • Registered Users Posts: 250 ✭✭Funky G

+1 on all of the above.

As i have stated on previous posts O2 were good in the beginning but have now sunk to an all time low with rip off prices, poor customer service and poor availability of services and reception in a few areas in Dublin.

Don't know what their coverage is like but i had 2 friends in Donabate throw back their contracts at O2 because the coverage was just sh1te. they are on meteor and have had no problems since going over.

I'm just running down my contract then i'm moving elsewhere. It took them over 2 months for them to fix the picture settings on the missus's phone after 3 separate trips to 3 O2 shops when she ported over. Yes i have seen the difference in my bill because of the free O2 to O2 calls n texts but not all the texts get delivered.

Again, fed up ringing them and waiting to speak to a customer services agent. A waste of time. I've better things to be doing than letting my blood boil with these clowns!!!

O2 - we don't care about the treats - the applegreen one on the cheap petrol didnt work in my local station, and that you have your name over the point depot. what customers want is......

    A decent reliable network
    Decent customer care.
    Cheaper prices.

    Rant over.

    G.

I found this to be the case as well. I was originally with 02 and having moved to Vodafone with the same €20 PAYG free text to any network plan Iv found my €20 goes so much further with Vodafone than it did with 02 by a very noticable margin  Not having to pay to use voicemail is nice as well :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,031 ✭✭✭lomb

Im sure in time O2 will be competitive , they already are considering they give 2 free cinema tickets a month for 20 e top up.

My main problem with O2 is their name, which genius came up with the idea of ditching Cellnet in the UK and Esat Digifone in Ireland for O2:confused:

Vodafone and meteor have much cooler names so go with one of them:pac:

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 314 ✭✭Joebits

Wow, I didn't realise people hated O2 that much(at all even..)

I'm stuck on a contract with Three Ireland and am finishing that in April cuz Three are a load of crap.

I basically just wanna go back to the way I used to play it. I was with Vodafone, €20 a month free texts. Simple as.. The €20 would be enough for the odd call here and there during each month.

What network is the best to join with PrePay? Say €20 a month. Free texts..etc

    Thanks for all those replies

ps: i wanna join O2 for the treats. I mean 2 Jack Daniels Burger meals in TGIs, Buy one get one free. Quality!! Thats €15 for two people. A whole meal! :D

Meteor, 18 month contract, 45 a month for 500 minutes and 500 texts, day or night to any network or landline in the republic, not bad.

I would say that O2 have the best phone and Meteor have the best prices.

I'm with O2 and would leave only the people I call/text the most are with O2 as well. I've not had any trouble with coverage but their data packages are p!ss poor and could yet send me rushing into the arms of a competitor. I'm just hoping against hope that they'll come out with something good soon.

They won't. They've been promising prepay data bundles for over two years and steadily decreasing their billpay offerings too.

I agree they have been promising data plans for prepay for years. There billpay data plans are rubbish too. There iphone insurance is 4/5 euro dearer a month than vod/3.

I have just read on their forum that you cant now get an upgrade while you are in contract.

And now i have read that if you are on one of their advance plans that are usually 18month contracts and you upgraded on 12months you cant have an upgrade until the 18 months are up even though you are out of contract. CONFUSING?

For example i upgraded last May on 12 month contract extension. Advance 150 which gives me 150mins and 100 text any network. Unlimited o2 and unlimited data for 40 euro a month and 9 euro insurance.

Now for me to upgrade on new Advance 150 plan for 12 months i get the following 150mins and 100 text any network. Unlimited o2 and 500mb data. And i get all this for 50euro a month and 13.99 insurance on iphone4. If you sign 18month contract its 45 euro a month + insurance.

Last year when i upgraded it suited me as most people i call were on o2 but now only my OH is still on o2. I wont be upgrading with them again.

o2 new slogan should be PAY MORE FOR LESS.

op I agree with everyone here stay away from o2 they will screw you if they can if you are on an 18 month contract the ring you after 12 months and any change at all and they class it as a new contract and you lose your upgrade chances

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,056 ✭✭✭✭BostonB

I'm with O2 because most of the people I know are on O2. Outside of that it doesn't offer good value. The upgrades are poor, the contracts are too long, the data packages are poor.

As a result I switched to a sim only plan, €20 a month on a 30day contract, free O2 calls/texts and 100 mins and 100 texts to other networks. I don't use data.

I changed the data settings so it can't connect. As most phones especially Nokia's seem to try connect to the mobile data far too easily. I just use Wifi.

What O2 do is ring you to offer you new addon's or discuss better price plans, without telling you, if you agree to any of it, they try put you on a new contract. T

Everyone is ranting on about contracts and price plans.

I don't care about contracts, hence I'm getting off my current one as soon as it ends in April.

I'm JUST curious about pre pay. No contracts. Nothing.

Do you get free credit when you top up by 20 a month?

You get €20 each month till june when you topup by €20, and an extra €5 for the month of march. You missed jan and feb

Personally I think the 30 day sim only is a better deal than the prepay, with the 20 top up.

    What's this?

And on the O2 ad it says 'Free O2 calls & Texts' Is this true when you're paying €20 a month?

Yes, simplicity price plan. Also includes 100mins and 100 texts to any network. You dont have the €20 to spend remember though like you do with the prepay price plan. If you work it our per minute or text, the simplicity works out cheaper for the €20.

how? the billpay version you're paying 20 a month for the tariff then paying for all your off network and landline calls on top of that, the prepay one you top up with 20 and then the cost of off net calls come out of that 20.
