During the big freeze my father in law told me the owenmore river just past collooney here in Sligo had so much water froze at the banks that the river had basically narrowed to a pretty small channel with the water thundering through the space that was left.
Im wondering would that have been just surface ice and thus giving Pike and indeed other fish places to shelter or might it be that alot of fish got swept away?

Highly unlikely it was more than a centimetre thick and it's just on the surface so would not effect the pike or any other species nor the speed of the flow.
