Here is a list of our choices in Kildare North.

I'm sure, like the rest of you, there will be a lot of thought put into who we elect into power this time.

Any info that you think would be of benefit to the rest of us regarding them would be helpful.

I intend to send them all a list of questions and see if they will answer any of them.

Here are my questions (if I've left something important out, let me know!)

Will you push towards ending wasteful state spending and living within our means?

Would you push for reforming, modernizing, and downsizing the public sector, including abolishing the public-sector wage premium and ending the culture of state pensions?
Public servants would invest privately for retirement like everyone else.

Will you push for a secular charter in our schools and for teachers to be private sector workers?

Would you push for privatizing state and semi-state bodies whenever feasible?

    Would you push for reforming government: separate the executive from the Dáil;
EG - 100 TDs elected from a national list; a directly elected Seanad with real powers.

Would you push for leaving local issues like planning permissions and filling potholes to the county Councillors?

Would you push for taking a progressive, modern stance on social issues such as marriage and the family, including gay people having the exact same rights as the rest of us?

Would you push for laying down a firm line to domestic bankers and international investors alike that private banking debt will never again be guaranteed by the state?

Would you vote to ensure that religious bodies are treated the same as other organisations under equality and employment legislation?

Do you believe that religions, like other organisations, should have to pay their fair share of tax on income that is not used to fund charitable activities?

Do you believe that blasphemy should be a criminal offence?

I think the only change will be fitzpatrick to murphy.

Murphy will have her work cut out though as she is well now it her area it is the rest of constituency is where she might fail.

    She has enough posters up.

I thought if I stood in the wrong spot for to long I would end up with one tied to me.

I think Catherine Murphy is an excellent local representative, but I'm not sure that this qualifies you to be a TD. A lot of the problems in the country are due to the clientelism that has gone on.. how else could you explain the election of Lowry, Healy-Rae and others. Plus, I don't necessarily think that having more independents in the Dail is a good thing. I don't want a government supported by a rag-bag of local or sectional interests.

I think Brady and Durkin will be returned and most likely Stagg too. It then get's interesting to see where the disgruntled FF vote goes. FF got almost 40% of the first preferences last time out, so there could be a lot of votes sloshing about. If FG pick up the lion's share, they should get a second seat. Catherine Murphy could do well if she picks up all the tranfers from the SF and other independents who go out early.

In reality, KN will not be the most exciting constituency for election buffs.

I would love to see John Mc Ginley getting a seat, ideally along side Emmet Stagg but I realise that may be unlikely. I have great respect for him and what he has achieved for the area. I also find him to be reliable and trustworthy. I don't know him personally and have no connections to him

I dont see any FF seats in Kildare N

    I predict (in this order)

    Durkin
    Stagg
    Murphy
and one of either Lawler or McGinley

There is one question I'll be asking Brady if she dares knock on my door again after the last time I met her :D

"If you are re-elected will you resign from your teaching post in Celbridge to allow a temporary teacher get a permanent position?"

This question should be asked of all teacher-TDs e.g. Martin, Hanafin, Shortall, etc

I think there is an FF seat still. The polls are showing them in the mid-teen in terms of percentage vote which should be enough to get them one seat, especially as Aine Brady has quite a strong personal support (she got a quarter of all first preferences last time out).

In a four seater with a reasonable small list and diversity of candidates, I would be shocked for them to go from 2 seats to no seat.

ive been saying the whole time that 4 1's is likely in N Kildare but which 4 is the fun bit Murphy is a great Cllr but dont think she is TD material but i see her getting in. Stagg should walk in. For FG i wud have said if it was durkan v Scully Scully would take the seat but since he is not on the ballot i see durkan keeping his seat and just scaping in with the 2nd labour and FG fighting for the 3 unless the transfer from the 2nd FF are good enough to take a seat. if not the 1st FF being in for the last night fight as well

    Stagg
    Murphy
    Durkan
    Brady

    I'd imagine

My thoughts pretty much echo everybody else's on this thread. The only change will be Fitzpatrick for Murphy.

    Stagg, Durkan, Murphy and Brady.

24.88% first preference votes last time around won't just disappear for FF and she will pick up Fitzpatricks votes as well so I believe she will retain her seat.

Can't help but wonder the reasoning for FG to go with Lawlor instead of Scully?

My main worry about Stagg is his age,he is in his late 60s and I think it might be time to make way for someone younger ...

"Will you push for a secular charter in our schools and for teachers to be private sector workers?"

Whatever about the secular schools, WHY would you want teachers to be 'private sector workers'?You want private sector nurses, police ... army too?Even your use of the term 'private sector worker' suggests youre another victim of the divide and conquer strategy of the government in stirring up Public vs Private debate . FF really are masters of spin -you can see how much Michael Martin has fooled people already -"ah sure his da was a bus driving boxer "...Look we made the 'safe choice' in entering public sector ,we didnt reap the rewards of the Tiger years (benchmarking barely kept up with inflation-and its all been taken back anyway )...dont expect the people playing on the slot machines in the casino to pay for the losses of the high stakes roulette players ...
How about we go back to payment by results like in the 1800s -Labour have suggested a variation on it !!!-and then what do you think will happen to the weaker kids ...Sinn Fein seem to be the only ones who have a clue ...
