Have a fire/smoke alarm panel that looks like this.

    http://wiki.boards.ie/images/FA_Panel.jpg

Some genius decided to break the glass in two BGU's, both in Zone 1.

We have replaced the break glass in both units, RESET and sounders stopped.

But now we have both an intermittant 'beep' and flash on the panel at "COMMON FAULT". Otherwise all tested and seems OK.

    Installation Company can't be traced...

Anyone suggest why common fault is beeping?

I presume you have silenced & reset the panel.
Is there any other fault light lit?
If not check are all the bells connected & is the EOL in place.
After that check all fuses, batteries & all earth connections.

    Thanks for the reply KoolKid

I presume you have silenced & reset the panel. Silenced Yep!
RESET:It goes through each of the four Zones and lights the "Alarm in Zone" red- on then off, lights the "ZoneFault-Test/Isolate" green- on then off.

Is there any other fault light lit? Nope!

If not check are all the bells connected & is the EOL in place.
Switch/Key to "Operate Sounders" and all bells work.
EOL, I guess is End Of Line? But what is EOL or how would I test it???

After that check all fuses, batteries & all earth connections.
Hmmm. The AC Healthy light is lit so I'm guessing 'the fuses' are OK.
Batteries - None that I know of! It is all hard wired. Would/should Panel box have a battery?
Earth connections? In the Panel box itself or elsewhere?

If you have a multi meter measure the resistance on any zone.
That will tell you what end of line resistors the panel is using.Possibly 6k8.
Check all bell inputs read the same.
Disconnect the batteries in the panel and check the voltage.
    Should be between 12-14 vdc.
Also remove each fuse and check with the meter.
Remember to turn off mains supply to that panel before opening.
