    Thanks IrishMetalHead,
Just used your specs and ordered from hardwareversand, upped Ram to 6Gb and HDD to 1Gb and dropped the build service. Can confirm DHL delivery is €30. Total cost €651.90. Looking forward to my first build

Good luck man! Im currently weighing up my cash options but this looks likely :)

6gb of ram? just to check did you order a triple channel 6gb of ram or did you buy double channel 4gb and added another 2gb double channel?

Ooops, forgot to check if 3 sticks were compatible with the board and 3 channel did not exist when I last bought ram.
Will just install 2x2gb and use the spare to stir my coffee, lucky the price was not much different. Order has allready shipped, thanks for the post anyway

could try it tho it might run in a seperate channel by itself just make sure the 2 other sticks are in the primeray slots first

No no, it frequently stops responding and its impossible to playback while editing. It just lags constantly.

I know its a bit late but you would have been better of picking up two new hard-drives, raw files on one, rendered to another. Would have made a huge difference without buying a new machine.

FWIW, if you were going to use the extra module, you might as well get another 2 GB stick so you have 8GB in dual channel. Then look up some interesting things to do with that much RAM. No point in having it if it's not doing anything useful.

You want dual channel RAM, not triple. Only an LGA1366 socket CPU uses triple channel memory.

That GPU is fine, but the 5770 offers a fair bit better performance for not much of a price increase. ~€8

since the hex core cpu's have dropped in price aswell would you like one of them instead of the quad core cpu? the 2 extra cores would really help you with video editing and only costs about €34 more

let us know what case your thinking of choosing out btw so we can tell ya if the airflow is any good ;)

Just went with your original choice. When it gets here assembled do I just need to pop the Windows CD in and boot it up? Last thing, what about a sound card. If im plugging in any old mini jack speaker there should already be a slot shouldnt there?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,185 ✭✭✭IrishMetalhead

all you have to do is install the operating system and drivers yes which is dead simple.
they'll sned you both OS disc and the driver discs for the graphics card and motherboard but your always better off downloading the latest ones off the manufacturers website (amd.com for graphics and msi.com for the motherboard).

And when you said original choice do you mean the case?
also which cpu and ram kit are you going with since i recommended 2 of each?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,185 ✭✭✭IrishMetalhead

If you are choosing the original case I chose just keep in mind it has gone up in price by almost a tenner and you get these two cases that have same level of cooling for less:

    NZXT M59 - €60.33
    http://www3.hardwareversand.de/articledetail.jsp?aid=28606&agid=631

    CoolerMaster 690 II - €65.70
    http://www3.hardwareversand.de/articledetail.jsp?adp=0&aid=38379&agid=631&apop=0

Or if you can get this case for the same price which has better cooling and more features like a fan controller:

    NZXT Lexa S - €70.13
    http://www3.hardwareversand.de/articledetail.jsp?adp=0&aid=29472&agid=631&apop=0

But if you just prefer the styling on the Midgard more than anything else then by all means get it :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,119 ✭✭✭Sprrratt

Picked the 4GB sticks with since you reckon they'll be well capable :) Liking that NZXT M59 case might pick that ;) cheaper too :D gonna order later have to use a friends CC. So really the only drivers i have to manually install are the motherboard and the gfx card? Grand if so... Will there be a headphone jack built in?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,185 ✭✭✭IrishMetalhead

ahh righ guessing the extra 3% is no big loss for you then :D

  • Registered Users Posts: 28,789 ✭✭✭✭ScumLord

They didn't let me use paypal, I had to do a money transfer.

I think he means he can build it and install it for 20 quid.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,185 ✭✭✭IrishMetalhead

Had 2 Mass OEM keys could use each copy on 10 comps but there all gone now got them off a mate awhile ago they were intended for office use don't now how my friend got them I can only hope he didn't steal them off the back off a lorry but he does live in Manchester so it could be highly possible >.<

Edit: wait did you think i was giving the copy of windows for €20 aswell?
no no no I was selling the keys for an additonal €35 but I would install them as well as build the comp for €20
when I made that post the 2 keys I had were already long gone didn't last long at all they mostly went to clients looking to upgrade
    sorry for the confusion >.<

  • Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 18,377 Mod ✭✭✭✭Solitaire

Please, I really don't want system builders using this forum to offload spare OEM keys they shouldn't own in the first place. That's little better than outright piracy - which is a banning offense on this site. If it became common I'd be forced to put a stop to system builders here volunteering their services to help people :(
