Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

One cable for Satellite and Terrestrial?

    ok, here's the story.

house destroyed by a burst pipe over the Christmas has meant that all ceilings and a wall need to be redone. it also means that we can do some more renovations like re-wiring etc.

now, the house was rented out a few years ago to a crowd who got sky digital, and as per usual, the installer took the quickest route from the dish to the tv.
but with the work needing to be done, there's the chance to bring the sky cable into the attic and go from there.

my plan (which i've kinda done with basic cable at home) is to bring the dky feed into the attic, split it in two and bring it down to 2 rooms. but as there's already an aerial coming into the attic, is it possible to join the two feeds so that in the rooms i can have a point like this

    w_304260_1640.JPG

    in both rooms.

    so, 2 feeds (2x=sat, 2y=aerial) split in 2 each in the attic, (x & x ; y & y) joined to give 2 cables only (x&y ; x&y) to go from the attic to 2 rooms.
    is this workable?
what would be the best cable to use etc?

    any opinions welcome!!

ps. one room will probably have freesat, the other with the option of it in the future, but at the mo, just terrestrial needed.

It is possible but to be honest you'd be better trying to run separate cables for each service to each room. Maybe a spare to each too......only my opinion!!!!!!

Satellite needs a seperate cable for each box, splitting it won't work. Need a dual or quad lnb with separate feed to each tuner for things to work right. This is because some sat channels are horizontal or vertical polarisation and sat box controls which mode the lnb operates in. Two boxes on same cable interfere with each other

You can certainly combine the TV aerial feed into the satellite cable and split it with a diplex wall plate in the room.
