Will they be if there's no ground rental from Fingal coming in?

We're in the process of cobbling some sort of team together from what I've heard, whether it'll be in time for the Setanta Cup I don't know, but news on that front seems to have quietened down, which is good.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

    Ger O'Brien too.

Although Sligo will probably sign up the whole squad on 52-week contracts.

    Dont be greedy :P

I kind of wish this had happened a little sooner, most of the big plays of the market have already been made. Still hope we sign one or two.

No Premier lisence so looks like...Mons will take their place?

This is fast turning into a discover Ireland league :/

Rumours coming through that Gary O Neill has already secured another gig as a psychic-cum-contract advisor.

Lower wage demands for players still looking for clubs suits us nicely.

Fingal fans are still more than welcome to come down to Dalymount on Friday nights.

What is happening with Galway and Bohs? The way things are going, the Blues might even end up Premier Division this season.

Waterford are ranked higher so would be next in line. Can't see Bohs not getting a premier licence. May not get a European licence though

Maybe SF can start from the lower-levels again. Lamper and co: feel for yis as supporters and I hope you stay in the LOI loop somehow even just as matchgoers and contributors on here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,142 ✭✭✭Ebbs

Were Drogs not in serious trouble as well? Dont believe there share scheme has sold out meaning they are still in debt.

Bohs have been rather silent of late so perhaps calm before a storm or they get their act together. I expect them to be in the PL next year though, simply because I think the FAI cant afford it without them.

Galway, Ive no idea whats happening with.

I really hope it is whoever being promoted from the first div, rather than drogs. Simply because they may actually last till the end of the season. FAI can Fcuk off with their 12/14/16 team league, we'll be lucky if there is that number of teams come the end of next season.

LSL for a few years and take it from there.

Or do what shels did and manage in the 1st division with some really good LSL players for a while.

    And stay at home..

At this rate, it'd be awful to have finished fourth in the first division of all the seasons to do it...:pac:

Monaghan is a good trip, there's only 6 or so marked in outside Dublin so far...

The players of League of Ireland premier division side Sporting Fingal have been told by the club that their contracts have been terminated.

The 2009 FAI Ford Cup holders, who have only been in existence since 2007, were due to play Lisburn Distillery on Monday in the Setanta Sports Cup but they have now withdrawn from the competition.

Thirteen players are currently under contract with the north Dublin club and future participation in the Airtricity League of Ireland is now seriously in doubt.

The club are reported to release a statement on the matter later this evening.

I might well do just that unless there's some sort of new Fingal starting at the bottom again.

    :(

I just hope that maybe the club could go back to the original idea and build from there in the A championship or something. I for one would follow the club in lower divisions. We should have cut back when it was looking likely that we where losing our main backer but it seems like we gambled and it failed and now the fans and players will be paying the price. Im angry very angry. I dont think this needed to happen.

I don't want this to come across as 'I told you so', but offering players 52 week, €1,000 pw contracts without the backing in place was a high risk maneouver and now the downside to that is you have no licence when he didn't materialise.

No reason why you can't rebuild in the 1st or A league on a semi-pro basis.

Fairly poor taste to use the news of Fingal's demise to have another unfounded pop at us.

I know I've voiced my objection to Fingal's model several times but I do feel genuinely sorry for the Fingal fans today. Its the worst thing possible for any football fan. Hope for your sakes there is a club there to follow at one level or another.

You cant say you werent warned.

That said, I hope yous do start again and build properly from the ground up, as I had a lot of time for the community based aspects of the club.

You just needed to realise you have to crawl before you can even walk in this league.

Lamper on the plus side it would seem that Fingal have very little or zero debts. So starting again would certainly be an option but would those involved with the club and fans have the stomach for it?
