Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    HI,
Just looking through some IT jobs on the likes on monster.ie and compterjobs.ie, nearly all the jobs you have to go through a recruiter. There's tonnes of recruiters with IT roles.
Anyone with advice on which recruiters are any good?
    PM if you prefer?
    Thanks.

i never put too much faith in recruiters tbh. Sadly, they're a necessary evil of the modern market, a product of a sector that increasingly looks to outsourcing and temporary staffing. I think they have a thread going on over in Work & Jobs on name & shame recruiters.. I've had good and bad experiences with many of them. But even the best of them will ultimately serve only their own needs. Unlike other sectors, from IT to painting & decorating where the quality of your work is your trademark, the sectors like recruitment, i feel, don't have that. They just source and pass on the cattle, and the more they do, and the quicker they do, the better for them.

I got a call from a recruiter this evening. I hadn't spoken to this woman in over 8 months after getting the "well if something comes up we'll call you" speil. Luckily for me i was a bit more resourceful in getting myself some interviews and a full time job less than 2 weeks later! :D Sorry Tim, this has turned into an awful lot of waffle. Are you looking for work or looking to hire? If you're looking for work i can pass on the details of my surprise phone call earlier. I believe it was a helpdesk job!

I replied to an agency ad on www.jobs.ie for an 8 week IT based contract.

People i worked for were happy with me, so they offerd me a 6 month contract with themselves (ie, not through the agency).

I know a few people who this has happened to. Agencies are used mainly to do the donkey work for bigger companies, who don't want to sift through all the CVs.

If they like your CV, you'll probably have an interview directly with their client.

Open a linkedIn account if you haven't already and get your qualifications and experience up there. I have been approached approx 10 times in the last 3 months both by employers and recruitment agents who have found me on LinkedIn. Not looking to move jobs myself at the moment but good to get your name out there

    Thanks.

I have over 10 years experience and I am really looking for a senior engineer / architect role? Is there an agency which specialise in these types of roles?
    Or for Java roles?

I also have a full time job now so I am not in a rush. Looking for the right role.

i'm not gonna bother mentioning companies tbh, because even the ones who were extremely polite and courteous to me ultimately gave me the two fingers, only calling when it suited them. So in my eyes, they're all bastards, a necessary evil in this world, and on a growing list of people i have who i would like to see loose their jobs. See how they like throwing out their CV!! :D

keep looking though.. your job will come up.
