Hi i was asked if i could fix a 360 that gets 1 red ring every now and then i turned it on and it has a jtagable dash I could just send this back to MS as it gets E74 so it is still coverd by warranty as it has not been opened.

    What would you do ?

Im thinking if i sent it back to MS im waisting a jtagable box but then again how long will the xbox last if i dont send it back.

Dont send it in, they will update the kernel or send you a new xbox, E74 can be fixed easy enough with a heat gun if it hasnt been completely fried (which this hasnt as it still works sometimes). If its 7371 and built June 09 then send it in as it will be 95% it cant be exploited, if prior to that jtag away.;)

I have a couple of falcons with E74 and the ones i've repaired have 4/5/6xxx dash's as they have been sitting a while as well. You can fix the E74 by either using a heat gun or baking the mobo in the oven (i kid you not), i use a heat gun and so far repair rate is 100%.

I think a lot of people fix it then just keep using it as is untill it dies again, to make it last you have to do some cooling mods or it will just go tits up again.

Heat guns are gonn a cause more damage then good if not done right, someone is offering reballing in the service thread (can't remember who, but I edited it there for them recently :o).

Get the rr sorted out, have it jtagged & do some cooling mods.

If its a late model jtaggable unit then it may be worth reballing, but with a gentle hand and a bit of care a heatgun works fine.

Model of the console? Sounds like it could be a Zephyr/Falcon, maybe even a Xenon.

Is it worth a reball? Yup, but only because it's JTAGable. First try the GPU and then the HANA/Scalar chip - you should be able to reball the GPU and reflow the HANA at the same time. If that doesn't work consider swapping parts, perhaps lifting the CPU up and throwing it onto a known-to-be-working board and taking the nand dump from the old board with it - bling bling, JTAG console :D

Don't let it go to Microsoft, they'll dump the board and give you a refurb with the updated bootloader

Fairly sure it'll work - dump the nand from the dead JTAG, lift the CPU and drop them onto a donor board. Then flash the nand on the donor board so it's got the same KV and you're laughing. Obviously it has to be the same model of board (Jasper for Jasper etc).
