Yeah but he could have let him get away with one that early. Both sets of players will be looking for a card for any kind of tackle from now on.

I understand why it's a bad idea for refs to book men early but if refs didn't book people for bad tackles that happen early then you are giving free reign for bad tackles in the first few mins. Timing has no issue...What happens if someone (outfield player) saves a goal bound shot with their hand on the line afer 1 min? Let them away cos it's early?

Thats a rule I'd like to see changed. What Cole (and most other defenders) did there is obstruction, plain and simple and would be a free elsewhere. You shouldnt be able to block a player off a ball your not in control of and you shouldnt be deemed in control till you touch it.

Took a while for him to settle in against Stoke, worked out okay in the end.

He isn't the best at keeping hold of the ball, not his style of play.
