I stupidly fell against my 26 inch flatscreen TV last night, and knocked it flying off the tv stand.

The LCD screen itself is cracked/broken,but the TV sill works with perfect sound, channel changing, but no picture.

Now,before I throw it out,can these LCD screens be fixed or replaced and if so,is it an expensive process?

Thinking, that this may be of use for the 2nd living room or for one of the bedrooms,in the future

    Thanks.:)

I dont really drink,I very rarely drink in fact, thats the ironic and funny thing about it.:pac:

I simply lost my balance, due to a long term and persistant injury and fell against the TV,before I knew it,the TV was on the ground.

Start drinking so, and you will have better balance when sober then:D

Its likely to not be worth while doing anything with it. Unless you find one someone is throwing out with the same with a different fault and take the screen from it id say. That seems unlikely though.

They can be fixed at a cost. Is the TV worth it? Difficult to say. Is accidental damage covered under your house insurance? If yes, and the excess is not high, it might be worth claiming on it for the repair. If no, your best long-term plan would probably be to buy new - try richersounds.com (they have a forum on Boards) and you'll get a decent price.

well the costs of new better models with MPEG4 built in decoders is falling all the time, are you just better off getting a new one? try to see what its worth in the shops now, not what you paid for it, IMHO only newish units are worth getting fixed the price has fallen so much, plus you can take this as an opportunity to get the latest digital TV tuner built in to take advantage of the new digital and HD digital service that is now up and running, check out the home entertainment and digital TV forums for the correct model if you decide to just get a new one.

Im actually taking the TV apart as I speak, and looking for a serial number for the LCD screen itself,

then going to google it and see if I can find a price for the screen and see if its worth doing,or just scrap it and buy a new TV.

    No harm in trying.:)

    this won't go well. lol

I'd advise getting the name of the TV and looking on youtube to see someone else taking it apart first, before you take out 200 unnecessary screws just to get to a bit that you need a priority tool for.

May as well go for it now that the screen is broke. But its likely to not be very feasable.

ya dead right man, a person who would consider its self a pro would defo charge a hundred quid plus for fixing plus price of the screen, then give you a 3 month warrenty if you were lucky, so it be a better investment to buy a new tv with 12 months/2 years warrenty for 360 od, so a good idea to try fixing your self ,,,, wow it was some bang it took!!!! let us know how you get o :0)

Can you give me the model number of the TV or the part number of the screen?

You can search by model number here, or by part numer if you can get it.

It has been some price fall all the same hasn`t it. The price of a car about 10 years ago for a 40 inch plasma.

I remember them being 15K alright, and they were muck, and died quickly.

Yes nothing near as good as they are now, they are not much dearer now than what a CRT one was a couple of years ago.

Yeah,I tried myself, but nothing came up.

I,ll give Samsung Ireland a call in the morning, and ask then where I cat my TV repaired?

Then when I find out,Ill see if that place can supply me with just the LCD screen part.;)

    Rang Samsung Ireland this morning.

They aint in Ireland though, not even in the UK.

They are actually in Egypt of all places.

Anyway, the lady gave me the number for their Irish/Dublin repair people, and they are in Green Ogue Ind Estate.

Im waiting for an engineer to ring me back about supplying the LCD screen part.

now with all the stone throwing going on at the mo over there, sad though it is, you'd think that the screens would be a little tougher!!;)
