Dunno if its been asked before but why do you have to buy your health insurance in your country of residence? Or any insurance for that matter, if travel insurance covers you in any country why can't I buy my health cover in another European country?

Ireland have a community rated market. A 75 year old pays the same price for the same cover or plan as 30 year old.

In the UK, it is a risk rated market where a 75 year old would pay a multiple of what a 30 year old pays.

Ireland doesn't take the health of a customer into consideration so a sick 50 year old pays the same a healthy 50 year old.

In the UK, as well as other countires, a cheaper premium can be obtianed if you are medically underwritten.

There are different premiums for older people who are travelling abroad under travel insurance policy and may not have cover if they have pre existing medical conditions.
