    The thanks button doesn't become available for use until you've made ten posts on the site.

    What past threads can't you see? Next to your post above this one, try clicking on your name and in the drop-down menu that appears, click on "find more posts by pragmatic1". That'll make all of your current posts appear to you in a list (it only shows the most recent 500 but that's not a problem for you for a while:)).
