Got this email from DHL Germany

    Dear customer,

    thank you for your request.

After the shipment has left Germany, local Post of Ireland is responsible for delivery and data transmission, not DHL.

The parcel left Germany on 26.02.2011 going to Ireland.
General running time for your parcel is 3 business days.

Due to increased security measures in Europe, there is currently significant delays.

In case your parcel does not arrive at the recipient until 04.03.2011 please contact the sender and request an investigation.

Im intrigued to know what security measures they are talking about.

Sorry about this stupid question but do hardwareversand put everything together for you?

    Thanks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,185 ✭✭✭IrishMetalhead

Yea they offer a full assembly service for €20 apart from large graphic cards, large heatsinks (which you have to fit yourself) or any os installation (os and drvier installation service costs€35 on hwvs)
Probably better off looking for someone local to put it together if not then pay hwvs to do it for you.

thanks for that dwighet but im just wondering somthing

if you look at my pics, there's a fan over the cpu already

mate that fan has to come off and then you must clean the cpu and install your new cooler

look for 4 plastic pins/clips that hold the stock cooler inplace and release them. Then you will see a small steel clamp that holds the cpu inplace...release that. and carefully remome the stock cooler and the cpu will come off as well as the cooler.. Then seperate the cpu from the cooler carefully.... clean the original heat paste off the cpu and renistall it(carefully) then clamp it down and apply your new heat paste and cooler.....

If you get stuck pm me your mobile and I will try to talk you through it....its not hard...just take your time....

It's an AMD cooler it won't have the plastic pins on it it'll have that metal clip thing thats all you need to do to remove it because the A70 uses AMD's stock mouting bracket.
Just read the installation instructions that came with the A70 and you should be grand just remember that it should sucking cold air from the bottom =D

yup thats more or less how ya do it just don't forget you thermal paste ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,071 ✭✭✭✭Headshot

well im finished and here is some pics and a video

basically pics are asking is that alright for the cooler to be that high up, that close to the ram and that close to the back of the case?

Also is the cpu suppose to be absolutely stiff or can it shake?

Im worried about the Thermal compound in terms of did I use the right amount

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,071 ✭✭✭✭Headshot

    I forgot to add

The original fan used a 4 pin where as the a70 uses a three pin, since I cant find anymore 3 pins connections, it has to be the right one

basically there's only one 3 pin connector and iv used it for the A70

    edit also

do I have the fans on the right direction and on the fan in the back (near the case) there's arrows saying
    > \/ (right and and forward)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,185 ✭✭✭IrishMetalhead

don't worry you can plug a 3pin into the 4pin cpu header and there should be a adapater to join the two fans to one header aswell so you don't need any fan headers on your mobo and to make sure the fans are facing away just use a small piece of light paper to see what way the airflow is going

btw you only need a thin layer of thermal compound so don't worry about that too much

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,399 ✭✭✭dwighet

you must have it fired up by now and a cold beer in your hand....fair play...:)

Did you plug the power adapter from the psu into the motherboard? They didn't plug mine in either

    Something like this

    7059d1224763782-motherboards-power-connector-motherboards-power-connector.jpg

There might be a powerswitch on the psu aswell, at the back of the case

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,071 ✭✭✭✭Headshot

    thanks for the reply Nuxxx

the "power adapter from the psu into the motherboard" could be in im not sure

the cable looks like its in but I cant see unless I lift up the cooler but the cable goes from the psu to the motherboard (you can see it in the video there) but I cant be sure is it plugged in but I would think so

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,185 ✭✭✭IrishMetalhead

if the 8pin power wasn't plugged in it'll still power up but the cpu won't so i don't think thats it could be a case of just unplugging and replugging the 24 power

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,071 ✭✭✭✭Headshot

actually I think this is what your talking about Nuxxx

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,185 ✭✭✭IrishMetalhead

yea the detacable 4pin secton (left side of the 24pin) dosn't appear to be sitting in it propally best unplugging it and plugging it back in

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,071 ✭✭✭✭Headshot

No luck metal, the picture was misleading, it was in fine but I still unplugged it and replugged it back in

Not trying to be smart but have you definately flicked the switch at the back of the power supply. Theres an on/off button

    :)

    sure have, the I/O

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,071 ✭✭✭✭Headshot

im using the cable from my printer in the back of the computer, not sure does that make a difference. it strictly says 230v

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,631 ✭✭✭✭Hank Scorpio

Maybe borrow one tomorrow to be sure, I bet its something simple like that

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,071 ✭✭✭✭Headshot

and god said let their be power

bingo we have power, I think it was the cables fault.

I hope I have the fans on the right way thou. The air is blowing in front and the air is coming in from the top
ie the air is blowing onto the graphics card

sounds right if you ask me

(btw thanks metal and Nuxxx for bearing with me )

nope not the right way round actually the air is meant to to blowing out from the top :O

going to sort it out now or just leave it till tomorrow?

    now

Im one of these fellas that once I start a job I have to have it done right away

so metal about these fans, im not sure about them

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,185 ✭✭✭IrishMetalhead

Just to make sure this is the way the airflow is supose to go

    2ypfej4.jpg

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,071 ✭✭✭✭Headshot

so the black fan that is facing out (one with the things sticking out at the corner) so that goes below the cpu cooler and the other goes beside the case

    that right ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,185 ✭✭✭IrishMetalhead

yep the one on the bottom should be blowing air through the heatsink while the one at the top of the case should be blowing out hot air out of the top of the case so it's just a case of swapping the fans around because the actual heatsink it self is the right way round

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,071 ✭✭✭✭Headshot

    So iv that swapped over

the one beside the case is slightly higher than the the other if you get me. Somthing is stopping it going down any further but all is working perfectly

    So i think that's all metal ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,185 ✭✭✭IrishMetalhead

it's upside down i think cause i expierienced that exact same problem when i was installing an a50 for a client.
the fan cable should be coming out from the bottom not the top that could be the problem.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,071 ✭✭✭✭Headshot

its the thing that locks in the cpu cooler thats causing it

I dont think it will make a difference will it ?

ohh may be the heatsink itself could be long way round then =s

plus it would make a massive difference because heat rises so the case is designed so the air flows that way so it's pulling cool air from the bottom and excausting it out the top but having the cpu cooler mounted the way round like yours is pulling blow in the opasit direction of the airflow and completely disrupting not to meantion it would be blow hot air onto you expensive gpu :O

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,071 ✭✭✭✭Headshot

god i starting to hate this computer stuff :pac:

if I take up the cpu cooler, do i have to redo the rubbing alcohol on the cpu and cooler?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,185 ✭✭✭IrishMetalhead

nope that should be still grand just need to take it off and turn it around

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,071 ✭✭✭✭Headshot

nope that should be still grand just need to take it off and turn it around

ill give it a shot metal, thanks again for all the help, I wouldnt beable to do it without ya

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,185 ✭✭✭IrishMetalhead

    not a problem mate =D
let me know how you get on with that

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,071 ✭✭✭✭Headshot

iv given up metal, iv tried each way , changed the lock bar to the other side too

but it doesnt matter the lock bar hinders the fans

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,185 ✭✭✭IrishMetalhead

well your not overclocking it atm so your just better off fitting the stock heatsink and fit the a70 another time maybe get someone in your area to help you out with it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,071 ✭✭✭✭Headshot
