This sucks, I wasn't regular but i went there a good bit. Just moved a bit closer to town so i would have been going there a lot more. It always seemed to do pretty well at weekends, Hopefully someone else will take it over and not change a thing about it...wishful thinking!

The Irish Times - Thursday, February 10, 2011

Party over as noted venue Sin É to shut over rent difficulties

    CONOR POPE, Consumer Affairs Correspondent

THAT’S IT for Sin É, one of Dublin’s most well-known and popular venues, which is to close its doors for the last time on Sunday night.

The owner, Ciarán Finnerty, told The Irish Times yesterday he could no longer afford to pay the rent on the Ormond Quay premises. He said while he was “heartbroken”, he was not prepared to trade recklessly and so had no choice but to put the business into voluntary liquidation.

A creditors’ meeting is to be held next Tuesday and he expressed the hope someone would step in by then and buy the business, which employs 18 people. “It seems hopeless, but we are still working flat out on the off-chance that we can save the name at least. I built the place up from the ground; there was nothing there before I opened it. I will be heartbroken if if goes but I will have to move on.”

News of Sin É’s difficulties emerged when Mr Finnerty posted a notice outside the pub this week, outlining its financial difficulties and expressing “hope for a brighter future”.

Sin É opened in 2003 and quickly became a hugely popular final destination for many Dublin pub-goers who appreciated its atmosphere, shabby-chic feel and laid-back staff. Billy Ó hAnluain was a DJ at the venue for more than six years and although he left last September, he has been asked to play some tunes on the final night.“There was always a great house party atmosphere there,” he said. “We’re giving it one last hurrah and we expect it will turn into a wild party.”

The Button Factory in Temple Bar has also announced it has gone into receivership.

Maybe the landlord has dropped the rent and can't afford to drop it any more.

Another business bites the dust. How exactly does the landlord expect to rent the premises again if S/HE refuses to lower the rates???

The city centre might as well shut up shop if this madness continues.

Waterstones, Gruel, Sin é, HMV (Soon), Zavvi, Thomas Cook, RTV Rentals, Movie Magic, West's Jewellers, Chartbusters etc.. Just a small few business that have gone recently. What's next?

Is HMV actualy closing or is that speculation?

Not the 1st to close down and Im sure it wont be the last. Between the landlords and councils they,ll screw a few more shops/pubs etc out of business out.

    Clarification in today's IT

An article was published in yesterday’s edition which stated incorrectly that the Button Factory in Temple Bar had gone into receivership.

In fact, as was reported in the edition of February 5th, Temple Lane Management Ltd, the company trading as the Button Factory, has been placed in examinership.

The Button Factory continues to trade and is determined to come out of examinership.

We would like to apologise for the error and any distress caused.

Well how much is he going to get with no tenants?

I heard on Sunday night that there has been a lot of interest from people looking to buy the pub. So hopefully it will be purchased and reopened soon.

Wow, I'd say that was some party. Excellent pub. Just coming back to Ireland for a few days this week, such a shame I won't be able to pop in for a pint and say my goodbyes. :(

What a shame, another good pub gone. Agree with everything said above, if they couldn't keep that spot going nobody will. Had some great times there, will miss the place.
