    Hi,

Would anyone recommend me a good car mechanic who is good with electrics in the Ennis area.
I had a warning light in my car and I brought it to my main dealer and I was quoted over €2000 to fix it.
I'd like to source out someone local to get a cheaper quote.

    thanks.

Maybe worth talking to Gus Murphy

My husband and I have our cars looked after by Charlie McEnery Motor Services, we have always found him good to deal with. If he can't help he will find someone for you. Charlie is located close to Gus Murphy.

Did they tell you what the problem was? Did they give you any print outs to show what the onboard computer said.

What warning light exactly did you see?
In the quote, did they say what needed to be replaced?
If they quoted you, they must have an idea what's wrong. What did they say the problem was?
And make and model of the car would be handy to know too.

Try EMC autos on the Quin Road - a young lad owns it but have always found him good and not a rip off; seems very decent and honest.

I was getting new tyres for my jeep in a tye place outside Galway and they mentioned that as I had 4 new tyres I should get check the alignment - they were going charging me another 40+ to do it (on top of the small fortune I gave them for the tyres) so I said I would hold off and asked EMC to check it out when I dropped the jeep in for a service- he checked it all out, said nothing at all wrong with alignment and didnt even charge me - the crowd in outside Galway would have charged me even just to check if they were aligned or not

sorry guys just seen your replies now,

Ok I got an engine warning light on a 03 toyota avensis, brought it to main dealer for diagnostics test, they came back with quote for €2500 for new Cat Convertor and new ECU.

Have you got it checked somewhere else? The norm with most is to delete codes let you drive it again for a day if the engine light is not red the check codes again if light comes back on. If the same codes come up then that might be your problem.

I have diagnostic leads to check codes.

Which dealer did you bring it too.

    No print out of codes?

I brought it to O'Mara's Limerick, they got rid of the warning light and gave me a quote for new cat convertor and new ecu,Warning light is back now, it won't pass the nct if i don't get it fixed.
I thought someone local that new about car electrics could do it cheaper.
I don't know about sourcing a new Cat C. or ECU
Car is running perfect but NCT is due soon.

I'd argue that the car will either need a new cat, because it's knackered and that's what's giving you the error code.
Or, on the other hand, the ECU is gone but the cat might be fine and that's why you have an error code.
Replacing both is simply carpet bombing the problem and may be overkill.
    This crowd does diagnostics:

If you need to source a new cat, I got a cheap one (and passed the NCT with it) here:

If you post your problems in the motors section you'll have a whole plethora of petrolheads to give advise, might be useful to diagnose the problem better.
