    Hi,

A friend of mine is thinking of starting up a new football magazine mainly focused on Irish football and the Irish international team. He's been in the magazine business a fair auld while and has sounded out several people in both industries about the idea with positive results.

He's stuck on a name for it though,so was just wondering if anyone here would have any suggestions?

    Cheers!

Isn't there a GAA magazine using that already? I'm almost sure there is.

    Awwwww :(
    I didn't know that.

Just seemed obvious, why is why someone already thought of it I suppose!

I'd tell him to reconsider. There was one a year or two back, focused on LoI and International team. Sold in LoI grounds and shops, was very good but went belly up.

More and more people are starting to call it football instead of soccer from what I can see.

Just put a premier league sticker album cover on the front and trick loads of people into buying it. I bet no one ever thought of something like that before;)

"Real football for real fans(except for the national team bits)" has a nice ring to it.

Apart from when I'm referring to this forum, I never call it anything else.

There was a magazine called Kickin' which ran from 1998 to 1999 if I recall correctly. It was really well laid out and great content (plus I won tickets to Ireland v Sweden at Lansdowne through it :D).
As with most things it went belly-up.

Fresh Eire Kick - has the acronym FEK too, which can be used throughout and is mildly humourous in an Irish context.

"OnSide" magazine made an brief appearance a few years ago, 2008 I think.

There's a new local football magazine in Cork called "Back of the Net", €2, details here: http://www.corkcityfc.net/home/2011/02/04/back-of-the-net-issue-one-still-on-sale/

That's the one, couldn't remember the name of it. This OP is the magazine I mentioned failing on it's arse back on the first page.

Just read your earlier post, totally agree, it's very difficult to make a successful Irish football magazine.

Dont think it being irish matters, magazines are dying. Internet delivers news a lot faster.

Instead of publishing it on paper could they not project it on pub walls around the country every Sunday?

Or maybe they could produce it to a really shoddy standard. And leave gross financial mismanagement in each department unpunished so that people who are fooled into buying it and come to liking the journalists can never be sure how long they're going to be around.

(Well done stovelid, keep the loitard flag flying high.)

@OP: ''The Goal Post'' ...like the Washington Post but... you know, more footbally. That's pretty weak, sorry.
