    RIP to those people.......

Was just talking to a friend who works in Cork Airport. She said it's mayhem up there. All incoming flights are diverted to Shannon, all outgoing flights are suspended.

Awful news, heart goes out to everyone involved!

    Watching RTE report now...
They're saying the plane crashed just before 10am on main runway (17). Witnesses heard a loud bang. Plane burst into flames. Emergency units responded immediately.

I thought there would be more people on a commuter flight from Belfast to Cork, there is usually more than 8? very sad story.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,598 ✭✭✭joe316

May their souls rest easy, horrible horrible way to die.

Hopefully the number dead is the lowest of the numbers reported.

    RIP

    Joe

I think people should remember 8 is an unconfirmed number.
Cork County Council spokesman says 3 people are confirmed dead after a plane from Belfast crashed at Cork Airport

Flew to Cork once, on a small aer arran plane, absolutely terrifying - never ever again - mate who's brother is a pilot said that Cork is very difficult to land in coz its on the coast & can be very windy.

    Desperately sad.

I log into facebook and this was the first thing I saw someone talking about it.

This is terrible news to hear, my heart goes to everyone affected. :(

R.I.P,I'm in complete and utter shock you never think something like this is gonna happen in your own back yard :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 303 ✭✭Debthree

temply, the airport itself isn't on the coast. It is very high and notoriously foggy. Having said that we don't know why the plane crashed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,790 ✭✭✭cornbb

Radio reports are saying there are still people trapped in the wreckage :(

Independent reporter is saying that the fog isn't too thick up there right now - fatality estimates are 3-8, he says 3 is the more likely figure.

    Awful news, RIP.

Kerry Radio are a bit slow :(
I'm here at the mo and I can assure they are not.
Unconfirmed reports from alot of sources saying different things..

RIP those who have passed away

RTE saying plane came apart in the middle :( Can only imagine the terror of the passengers in their final minutes, awful horrible news. Hope fatalities number is as low as possible.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,194 ✭✭✭✭Basq

    Absolutely shocking news..

RTÉ should be careful with stating 8 dead and several injured.. they never mentioned it was unconfirmed while I was watching.

Others (including BreakingNews and Sky News) are stating 3 dead and several injured.

My thoughts and prayers are with the families who have lost someone in the flight! :(

    RIP!

Apparently southlink is closed from airport to wilton, unconfirmed but from douglas it looks like nothing is moving.

    RTE twitter now says
Latest as given by Cork Airport: Three confirmed dead; 2 seriously injured; 1 walking wounded; 2 survivors still trapped; 4 unaccounted for

Correct facts: 12 on board. 6 confirmed dead so far.

Jesus, this is a mental thing to wake up to. Its seems 3 are confirmed dead so far. There are so many figures flying around its hard to know whats accurate.

I only came through the airport on saturday night after landing in a storm. You ever think anything bad is going to happen.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,190 ✭✭✭✭IvySlayer

RTE say 3 dead and 4 unaccounted for.

    Sky News say 6 dead.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,293 ✭✭✭✭Mint Sauce

    3 confirmed dead
Three people have been confirmed dead and four people are unaccounted for following a plane crash at Cork Airport.

Cork Airport PR Representative Tom O'Sullivan said two surviovors are still trapped inside the plane.

The Manx2 commuter flight was en route from Belfast when it crashed in heavy fog at Cork Airport just before 10am.

I came into Dublin Airport from France on Sunday morning with terrible wind and rain..

.. it was an incredibly bumpy and shaky landing, but jesus.. someone like that is the last thing you expect to happen.

The fact it's so close to home makes it feel so real, and shocking.

South RIng closed between Kinsale and Wilton i hear to allow access from Airport to CUH. At least they have access to Irelands only Trauma One Hospital. They are only a few miles from the best emergency hospital in the country.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 159 ✭✭Gaudizeit

5 confirmed dead on rte. That was from CUH. Hopefully no more. Fierce tragedy.

It's a Manx2 flight. They don't actually own any planes, but run other airline's aircraft under their own name.

It was a commercial flight coming from Belfast city, so I would imagine there are a number of Irish/UK citizens on board.

Terrible terrible news. RIP to those that passed and good luck to all those injured and unaccounted for.

This bloke on rte seems to be leaning on pilot error, bit early to be insinuating anything if you ask me.

    Awful news, kinda think it's
Something that happens elsewhere in the world

Sky reporting there will be a press conference soon at the airport.

Edit : "Irelands First Minister" to hold news conference at 12.30

Watching RTE news and they are pointing the blame at pilot error...i think this is a bit insensitive at the present time when investigors have not been deployed as yet....

Sky News saying the same about why the pilot didn't divert rather than risk a third landing. Leave it until you have all the facts.
