Not yet I don't think - he'll most likely fight Rogers in Japan.
That's what i was thinking mate, cheers.
With them flashing him up on screen i thought he may have got around the red tape some how.
Anyway looking forward to this and seeing how Fedor reacts to his last fight.

    He is retiring?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 14 ....meh!

We know Overeem has great stand up, his K1 win proved it but i can't wait to see how he does against Werdum. I think this is the last we may see of Fedor, his hunger seems to be gone.

Edit : He just said as much himself

Why? He more than likely made way more money in Strikeforce with the co-promotion.

imo this was a far more satisfying night of action than a lot of the recent ufcs, maybe 116 was the closest.

I never saw the old Werdum-Silva fight, anyone know what it was like?

Yea because the UFC Hw divison is stacked....
Outside Cain and JDS there's not much there, Jones will move up within the next 18 months but thats really it, Schaub shows promise but that's it.

...lol. He's always fought in the places with the best HW divisions. THe HW division has always been poor in UFC.

So Carwin is gone cos Brock made him tap? Lets not forget auld Brocky. Fedor obviously doesnt like bigger men being on top of him, going by tonight Brock would have him from brecky

It was a pretty good fight, both were close to finishing with Silva buckling Werdum a couple of times.

Keep your disrespectful comments for the pro-wrestling forum "my boy".

The legacy of Fedor Emelianenko will never be questioned, the greatest fighter to ever grace the MMA world. You should be appreciative you got to witness it and not sneering at the epitomy of a true fighter.

That was awful. Fedor looked terrible from the very start - would have go KOed if that was Overeem or Sergei. The end reminded me of Royce Gracie vs Matt Hughes, where you're praying for him to get out of an impossible position.

At least Sergei-Overeem 3 is possible for the final!

I think I'll stay off Sherdog for a while - no doubt there will he hundreds of posts pissing all over Fedor's achievements and legacy. Just like Chuck was, the guy is a legend.

Going by your posts you know next to nothing. Brock doesn't like getting hit in the face, and he'd have Fedor 'for brecky'? Once Carwin can go more than 5 minutes, then he can be considered a top fighter maybe. Remember Gonzaga had him seeing stars?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 437 ✭✭MonkeyBalls

He's a living legend. Far more skilled than any heavyweight alive, he just couldn't deal with a monstrous giant who had 40 lbs on him and who fought a perfect fight and was on top of him. The fact that he got out of the second round is incredible.

If he retires, he goes down as the best of all time. Everyone's time comes.

Is that the Brock Lesnar that would hit the floor from a gust of wind? Great wrestler but doesn't like to be hit and if he took one of Fedor's shots tonight he would be going to sleep. "Brecky" would have to wait until he wakes up the next morning.

Disrespectful how? Did I offend Fedor?

If he was a true fighter he would have went to the UFC. Tis all a money racket anyway

you must be joking? why should the man have accepted lesser terms to fight people that were no better than what was on offer in strikeforce? neither cain nor dos santos were at the level they are at now and no one else in the ufc would have posed any problems to fedor, from what i have seen. brock? would have tasted a few punches and ran and gotten beaten down by a smaller man. mir? would have lost on the feet or the ground? after that who is there? i'm sure he's reasonably happy with his career moves even if ufc fanboys are not.

i wont forget Brocky but by your logic he's gone because Cain made him run away. Him and Carwin arn't at the level of Cain, JDS and the top Strikeforce hws. Hw is a poor division in UFC and Dana hates it.
Have a look at PRIDE lad that'll show you how a prime Fedor liked big men.

    What top SF heavyweights? Arlovski?

edit yeah never heard of Pride til now, nice one

diminishing returns you fcking meat heads................
Fedor trains his ass off, after being beat tonight, how can he train harder?
He probably trained harder for this fight than his previous ones.
Fedor is a beast, but he's getting older now.

I would find the bolded disrespectful. It seems to me you think that because he never fought in the UFC it hampered his legacy? It didn't and won't.

The big boys play? Well the biggest of them all never fought there and it will take someone very special to ever out do his legacy in the MMA world.

You need to lighten up if you find that disrespectful. No offence.

It hasnt hampered his legacy, but he would have been fighting real competiion in the UFC for the last few years. His last 2 big fights were bad loses. He got fairly rocked by Rogers too at one stage. Til then who was he fighting after Pride, Hong Man Choi?

Anderson Silva is quite the special man I would think he would be the right man for the job myself

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 516 ✭✭✭Jayo_M

Since leaving Pride he also beat Sylvia, who had only lost twice in his previous 9 fights (all in the UFC), losing to Big Nog. He also beat Arlovski, who was riding a 5-fight win streak at the time, 3 of which were in UFC which he left over a contract dispute. So, two guys who were pretty much at the top of the HW division - I think Arlovski was ranked number 2 at the time. So yea, he fought the best the HW division had to offer at the time going by concensus rankings. He was also due to fight Couture, but Dana prevented that with legal action, and was due to fight Barnett but we all know what happened there.

He would have mauled Werdum imo but he got caught and made a mistake, tonight he was just overpowered really and maybe it is time to retire.

Your lack of knowledge of MMA is shining through when you say he got rocked by Rogers, so what? Silva got rocked by Sonnen, Lesnar by Carwin, Cain was rocked by Cheick Kongo, what is your point? Anyone can get rocked.

Even though I'm not a fan of M1, I'm glad Fedor didn't bow to the hands of Dana White, he didn't need to go to the UFC.

Silva is the greatest fighter imo at the moment but his disrespect at times is sickening, most notably Damian Maia.

Fedor was the full package, the epitomy of what every Mixed Martial Artist should aspire to. The guy oozed skill, class and elegance.

If this was his last fight, he will go down in history as a true legend. In the early 2000's in Pride, his fights with Nogueira were epic.

Post Pride, you can in my opinion legitimately interpret his career in different ways. On the 1 hand he did beat 2 former UFC champions in Silvia and Arlovski and at the time Fedor beat them, it meant alot more than it means today perhaps given their demise.

On the other, while his fights with Lindland and Hong Man Choi were entertaining and displayed his amazing ability it can't be said that he was actively fighting the best out there.

I was disappointed in 2007 when UFC made him a big offer and he didn't go and he became a little less relevant for me.

With all that said, a truly amazing fighter. He has a highlight reel of epic MMA moments that few if any can match.

Given the vice like grip that M-1 have on Fedor's nuts, I wonder whether he'll have the option to retire!

As much as I dislike M-1, I have nothing but respect for Fedor himself. As genuine and humble a man as there is in the sport. I chuckled when Silva won because I could imagine the reaction of the nut jobs on Sherdog, but watching Fedor's interview, I couldn't help but feel for him.

If you think Fedor not going to UFC wont damage his legacy, you dont understand how history is written in sports like this.

His last fight with Werdum hurt his aura/relevancy more than I initially thought it would but last night's fight really done a number on it.

People on here may have a breakdown over this but it is pretty obvious now to see why Fedor backed out on facing someone of Brock's size after UFC gave him everything he wanted to sign.

But they didn't. He wanted co-promotion, and UFC (rightly, in my opinion) would never agree to that with a company the size of M-1.
