We are thinking of moving the family to Australia for a few years. I work full time as an ICT Systems Analyst and I'm 35, my husband is currently unemployed, aged 39 and a qualified Horticulturist but can't get work here in Ireland. We have 3 kids aged 8, 4 and 3 and we all speak English as our first language.

Does anybody know of a family with similarly aged kids, how they setled in etc? What are the best places to live for families, we'd like to be on or quite near to the coast.

Are there any organisations that anybody could recommend to help us prepare, submit visa applications, find jobs, schools, accommodation etc?

Thanks for any help, we're just in the considering stage at the moment so trying to get some feel for other peoples experiences etc.icon5.gif

Try Liz O' Hagan for advice. She was formerly part of australian visa lawyers but is now working for herself. She will ask you email her both your and your husbands CV. From that she can let you know what visa(s) you're entitled to apply for.

liz@australian.ie and mobile number is 0879187773 or office 045 844232

kkelly77 - did you contact that lady in relation to the Australian visa etc? Was she able to help you?

I'm planning a similar relocation to you... I have 2 young children, I'm 32 and work in IT too. I think we will encounter similar issues on our journey.

Out of interest - Are you moving abroad due to your husbands work issues or is it something you've both always wanted?

My wife and I are trying to assess whether we as a family would be happier in OZ... I'm 100% sure on a move my wife a little less so... I suppose, we both need to be happy for it to work....

Anthony you sound like good candidates for BBC Wanted down under, you should apply and get a free holiday out of it.
