i thought chris luke's point about A&E depts being EWTD compliant was a bit simplistic - he didnt go on to add that while the casualty officer seeing you might be on a 12 hour shift, if you are referrred to a medic/surgeon/psych/obs/paeds doc they will most likely be in the middle of an illegal and dangerous shift.

I think the point about A&E being EWTD compliant makes no difference. A&Es are horrible places to work. If they want to attract NCHDs to A&Es then they have to be incentivised.

Taking away training recognition was more about reconfiguring services, It has backfired on the HSE bods when the penny drops and no one wants to work in these reconfigured hospitals.

Why would you train in Ireland when you can train in Australia. The training is faster, better , shorter hours, protected training, better pay less tax. better quality of life etc etc.

To make doctors work in A&E the pay must be better ( there is no problem getting NCHDs at locum rates). The training shorter and a hugh expansion in A&E consultants.

I'm not disputing that at all but my point was that he attempted to make it look like the nchd lad was lying about 80 Hr weeks.

Just reading some of the anti-doctor contributions in various threads on Politics.ie at the moment.
Makes the blood boil- some of these clowns don't have a clue.

I got a letter printed in the IMT which I wrote in reply to Dr. Luke's article last month.

Not sure how many people pay attention to these letters, I think I was in a pretty bad mood when I wrote it - hope that didn't come across.
