    Hi John, Dave, Ashley
I wonder if I can be so bold as to ask a technical question here?

I have tried Philips Live Chat, I have also tried emailing Philips. The live chat person was unable to help and the email response asked me to phone Philips.

    Here's my question
What is the specification of the Lan port in my Philips TV?
TV is a 37PFL7605H and I simply want to know what spec / speed the Lan port operates at. The user manual and leaflet do not tell me for unknown reason.

If you can help I would be very grateful. If not I totally understand that this more a pre-sales forum so no worries.

    Many thanks
    d

Edit: Just to let you know, I am asking here as a last resort as I simply cannot get the Philips online web support form to work, see attached image. It's like this every time I use it.

    Hi Dnme

I have passed your question onto the tech & Service dept in Philips.

Once they get back to me I'll pass the info on to you.

Heres what I got from Live Chat

    Ash: Hi There
I have a little question for you...
Can you tell me the speed and spec that the LAN port on the 37PFL7605H runs at?

Ash: I cant find this info in the instructions or on line spec
Pierre: Ok, one moment please while I check if this information is available for you
    Ash: thanks Pierre
Pierre: I am really sorry for the delay. I am having abit of difficulty locating this specific information on the system.
    Ash: thats cool

Pierre: Thank you for your patience. I have just spoken with one of the TV specialist and they have advised that the speed of the port would depend on the ethernet cable itself and the direct speed of the router. The LAN port is for category 5 cables or Ethernet UTP5. So any speed at which this cable is able to transfer is what you would get via the port.
Pierre: There is no specific speed for the port itself. The signal transfer speed goes up to that of a category 5 cable. Unfortunately I do not know the speed capabilities of these cables or how fast they transfer the signals
    Ash: OK Pierre

That more info that I could find elsewhere

    Thanks
    Ash

    Does that help any???

I'll post back any further info that I can get out of Philip[s Ireland

    Cheers
    Ash

    Ash

Many thanks for your help. The live chat above is no help. Every Lan port on the planet operates at a specific speed, and is categorised under one of the following maximums...

So here's the question again - What spec is the Lan Port on the 37pfl7605h?
    Is it 1Gbit?
    Is it 100Mbit?
    Is it 10Mbit?

    Many thanks

EDIT: Another way to approach this, is to ask then what network / ethernet chip they use in this TV? If I know that I can look it up myself.

    Hi Again Dnme

I've just heard back from Philips Service Manager based in Philips HQ and he dug about and says its rated at 1Gbit.

    So there you have it:)

    Hope that helps

Well now Ashley, here's the issue!

When I connect the TV to my router, my router indicates either 100Mbit or 10Mbit by emitting an amber port led. Now I've tried all the usual - different ports, different cables, Cat5, Cat5e etc. Netgear have clarified that my router is behaving correctly and as expected, so can we have clarification on the TV?

Again, many apologies for troubling you. I know it's not your remit here and I sincerely appreciate the help. I've been trying to get an answer now on this for about 3 weeks. Today via yourself - the "1Gbit" was the first time I received any answer at all; But I am 99.9% sure its wrong. I am also suspicious as to why they do not publish this "specification" on their product information leaflet and product "specification" sheet.

Any chance of clarification, if you can't help me I'll understand.

    Again - forever grateful

    d

    Hi again

    Mmm....
Well that 1Gbit came from the Philips Service side of things - I'll see if they can email me the part of the service manual for the TV that relates to the LAN port spec's - apparently the manual runs to over 170 pages and I'll email it on to you.

Wont be able to do anything for you now to Monday 14th (that dates sounds important for some reason.......)

    Have a good weekend
    Ash

Hi folks, just wondering was there any update? I have emailed Philips again but not even a confirmation was received.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,541 ✭✭✭irlrobins

Out of interest, why do you need to know this? Are you having issues with getting the Tv connected to your router?

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,411 ✭✭✭dnme

I need to know because it matters i terms of bandwidth, DLNA media serving, transcoding movie quality etc etc. It's incredible that Philips do not publish such a fundamental piece of information in the specification sheet.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,541 ✭✭✭irlrobins

What model of router do you have? Does it support gigabit?

    Hi Dnme

I've been back on to the tech dept again re this and will come back when I have any info - hopefully a little later today.

Hope thats ok - we have never been asked this info before and judging by the folks I've spoken with in Philips nor have they!

    Regards
    Ash

    Hello Ash,

Thanks very much for the help. It will be interesting to hear what these folks have to say. I have phoned Colin now and he is getting back to me.

In the mean time, I crimped up a crossover cable last night and connected my laptop (10/100/1000mbit) to the TV so I must confess, I already know the answer. It'll just be interesting to hear it from the tech guys to see if we match.

    lads,

it wont matter if the port on the TV is 1gbit
IF the router can only handle 10/100mbps !
thats as fast as it will go and no faster !

the network and its connected items will only be as fast as the ports they travel through, ergo a 1gbit port on a tv will only receive @ 100mbps if thats all the router is capable of !

at least im pretty sure thats the case :cool:

I'm using a 1gbit router and even if I wasn't, my question is still perfectly valid!

Don't worry no one has any issue with you making a query, unfortunately I just don't have the info you require. - if it's urgent I'll get my own it guy onto the case on Monday ( however from your posts it seems you already have the info?)

Send me a Pm or post if I can assist,

No John, It's not urgent at all, but is becoming a matter of principle now. I've never had a good experience with Philips support. This issue is the worst yet. I'm holding out for an answer if it kills me.

So far they have . .
    ignored multiple emails,
in 2 live chats told me they did not know,
given your folks an incorrect answer,
and five weeks on, still waiting for an answer.

If you're into your tech, it's one of the most basic questions one could ask and it remains a mystery why they don't include this particular specification in the products "specification" sheet!

If it wasn't for you at this channel, I would simply never be able to ask philips a question and receive an answer (albeit correct or incorrect)

Was the Philips contact Ash gave you the phone number for today not able to assist - to be fair it's not a normal spec that most manufacturers post intheir specs - I thought that the tech support guy we put you intouuch with would be able to help you today?

I'm sure he will, he phoned me back in the afternoon and I missed his call. I left him a message and will speak to him on Monday. He was a really nice fella, very helpful.

Whether it's the norm to post the spec or not, eh you know - why have a spec sheet then? why post some specs and not others? where is the line drawn?

More importantly, if a customer asks the company for the spec, the answer should be made available in a somewhat more efficient manor that that which I continue to experience with Philips . . . wouldn't you say? (5 weeks and counting . . .???)

Please please do NOT apologise, this is not your issue at all. In fact you are the only ones that I have been able to communicate with and I apologise for involving you and using your forum for such issues when I realise this is a forum with a different purpose in life.

    Thanks again John
Your help is very much appreciated.

    @dnme,

I have snipped the somewhat intemperate comments about Philips from your post above. As you so readily acknowledge, John and Ash are doing their best to assist you using the facility of this forum. If you have concerns about Philips' response to you then I suggest that you find an alternate avenue to give expression to your concerns. This matter is dealt with in the Charter for this forum here http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055564744 as follows:
If you have an opinion on some matter related to the items that Richersounds or The Philips Shop sell, or you wish to give people the benefit of your advice on some related issue, Please do not post it in this forum ! There are other fora on Boards in the Tech section on Home Entertainment or TV related topics, or in the Consumer fora, which are suitable locations for endowing Boardies with the benefit of any advice or opinion you wish to offer. Bearing in mind the purpose of this forum, posts along the lines described here are not appropriate and will be suitably snipped or delete without warning. This approach is taken to ensure the workability of this particular forum and to ensure that general advice and discursive posts are made in the appropriate forum. This is not intended to prevent the usual chat and banter which you will regularly see on the RS forum.

I also note the following from an earlier post on this thread:

I understand from the quote above that you have already identified the answer to your own question which gave rise to this thread and that you are now pursuing an answer from Philips as some point of principle - this is, of course, a matter for yourself.

Accordingly, I think that this thread has served its purpose in assisting you and I will be closing it shortly.

If you wish to post the answer to your question for the benefit of other users, then that might be a useful and welcome piece of information to offer to other Boardies who might be interested in the outcome and would be a nice gesture with which to conclude the matter.

    Thanks for your co-operation,

    Ritz.
