Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

some good shots there, but how the hell does the below pic win 2nd place ????

At a guess I'd imagine that some of the judges probably voted for it and it ended up getting less votes than 1st place and more votes than 3rd.

I'd swear yer man with the catapult in the Bangkok riots photos is wearing an O'Neills GAA club polo shirt... must've been protesting for payment to players or something?

Have a look at the series as a whole and see if it makes any different to your judgment.

Remember its the World Press Awards, i would assume that a certain amount of the judging goes into the journalistic qualities and the story behind it, and as a series i think it works well.

You have a load of entirely different looking people, from different walks of life all doing the exact same thing in relation to facebook type images, i find it intriguing. Especially considering "Photographers" will consistantly mock the arm straight out Facebook portrait, its nice to see someone put it into a more serious photography context.

We all love the wham bam IMPACT! images, of course we do, but for me its also great to see someone veer away from that from time to time and take a look at life from a slightly different perspective.

Good point indeed, but the photo itself is quite average , I can imagine
similar photos a lot better, just do a browse in flickr.

It's the press awards though, so I'd imagine context, and how well and appropriately the images illustrate that context, actually have as much weight as the shot.

3rd prize for the stories is an Irish chap and I must say the photos are v. good.

    Good portraits all right,
I'm assuming these are from the travelling community ?

Good to see Seamus Murphy in there again, and a couple of other Irish heads too.

I thought the Faceback Story was a good win, it is Press awards after all, and Facebook was all over the news this year. Fav story for me was the Targeted killings. Fav individual was probably the winner itself.
