Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

want to get FTA channels in. Noticed Maplin sells the whole setup. Just wondering if their equipment is any use compared to a FTA specialist/suppliers like 'Bye bye tv bills' etc?

    cheers guys.

I'd only buy their "Freesat HD" models. Those are much cheaper online.

I was in Maplin today. They have a deal going. 78euro for the lot (dish, reciever, cables etc) pretty good price. But the dish they give is a small one. As opposed to a bigger one they sell.

Would such a dish do the job?
I hear that alot of channels are going HD in 2012 (or something) but also hear its the reciever needs to be HD not the dish (thats correct right?)

So I guess the ultimate question is would that Maplin combo deal do?
Would I be able to get all the FTA channels out there?

If the dish is not too small, yes.

Only get it if it's a "Freesat HD" receiver with Diseqc. Compare online prices.
East Coast needs 60cm dish. Extreme West, South West and North West maybe 78cm for decent rain margin.
For Multiple Sat feeds (UK FTA + Ireland or Mainland Europe) you need 78, 90/95 or 110cm depending on location.

A Maplin guy says a sky dish can be hooked up the any old satellite reciever box to get FTA channels ....

but since the sky dishes are small.. surely thats not true?

For the UK channels. But if you have a Sky dish, maybe you have a Sky box and it will get all the free UK channels without a subscription.

Sky dishes can rust bad (depends on which supplier and location) and thus be awkward to move to point to a different satellite. Too small for motor or Multifeed use.

If the dish is a Fortec Star then stay away from it. The arm mounts are muck.
