Are there any bars/venues in Dublin that don't charge an entry fee and you can just listen to the music while you drink your beer?

I'm from the U.S. but can't find this information so maybe it's the case that music events here always require you to buy tickets in advance?

It depends on the type of music you're after but there are plenty of bars in the city centre that have music (be it a DJ or jukebox) and no cover charge.

Doyles on college street is a nice bar that plays some music and has a dj upstairs.

    Sheebeen Chic on Georges street.

Whelans Wexford street sometimes has live bands, sometimes they charge sometimes they don't.

Anseo Camden street one of my favourites. :)

Fibber Magees Parnell street, if metal/rock is what you are in to, they usually have a small cover charge and do cheap drinks on Wednesdays and Thursdays (€3)

Peader Kearneys dame street is nice, sometimes a bit of music.

Thanks so much, squeakyduck. Very helpful. I'll start checking out some of those places.

The Bernard Shaw on Camden Street is always free in and has great music.

The Dice Bar down by Smithfield too, especially on weekends.

Le Cirk/Sweeney's is great for free live music, it'll have bands on nearly every night and is nearly always free in, that's on Dame Street, and has another entrance on Dame Lane.

Yeah would definitely recommend Le Cirk/Sweeney's. Always a great vibe in that place!
