Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I've had a half a day playing with it also and have to admit it really is a great phone. The speed of doing everything on it is just unreal, its such a step up from the Desire and iphone4 I think. My only gripe is the size of it, its just a little big but then again I love having the big screen but the fact that its so thin and light negates the overall size of it for me.

Keep reading, s2 is the only show in town at the min! Only thing other phones have that it don't is maybe a more quality feel in the hand, personally I'd rather more quality inside the phone!

Keep reading dude! The only thing the sensation would have over the SGSII would be the unibody construction ,but that would be personal preference. Personally I don't like HTC's design language (for some reason I find the Desire offensively ugly - dunno why and probably why I hated the thing!)

I think someone mentioned the size. This was a concern before it arrive, but the phone is super slim, so you dont notice it - unless you are one who wears those skin-tight jeans. One-handed operation can be a bit unwieldily though.

One thing that is grinding quite badly now - websites are ugly on this phone. I've tried a few browsers, etc but pictures always come up grainy and horrible -like it is downloading a low-res version. Text is fine, looking crisp and sharp. The same websites on the iPhone look great (and at higher PPI - so Im thinking it's not the website). Given both browsers are webKit, Im guessing it's a setting somewhere? I've tried dolphin, changing settings, to dektop, custom, iPhone - everything. Any clues?

Does anyone know how to update the SGS2 to the newest firmware on a mac? Or even to do a backup?

It's supposed to be done through samsung kies, I know as of yet that the latest version of which is not available on mac as of yet. I'd try googling to see if there is an alternative

Mate of mine works for 02. He just got a stock update and the S2 is down as “Delayed by Sangsung until June”
Although he said he would not be surprised of an even later release date – he said they have loads of stock of the Galaxys S – and they may want to try to get rid of as many of them as possible before bringing out the new one so as not to be stuck with it.

Question: My contract does not expire for another 4 months or so. Last year I managed to bully them into giving me an upgrade a bit early, threatening to move to Vodafone etc – and my bills are usually €100 - €150 a month. However, I have heard they are being a lot tougher on this now and all networks are sticking to their guns on expiring contracts. Has anyone here managed to do it?

Meteor told me on the phone that they will normally let you upgrade from when there is 3 months left on the contract, im sure this varies from network to network.

I would think its in the networks own interest however given it ensures you stay with them as normally if you had 4 months left and took another 12 month contract thats you wrapped up for 16 months.

o2 will not let you upgrade early. Period. New policies apparently. Even with your fairly healthy spend the upgrade might not be great, from what other boardies have suggested.

That spend does seem large, has me thinking you could be on a better tariff. Where does most of the spend come from?

Got my review unit. Very slick, but still hasn't shaken my desire for a hardware keyboard originating from my time with the Desire Z.

Three's pricing seems a bit saucy I think:

    Classic Flex €40pm - Handset 299 (18month) 149 (24month)
    Super Flex 60pm - 229 (18month) 99 (24month)
    Mega Flex 80pm - 142 (18month) 29 (24month)
    Ultimate Flex 95pm - 49 (18month) Free (24month)

Hopefully meteor will come in cheaper... three have historically been more expensive for handsets.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 427 ✭✭bd250110

I agree. Three's pricing does seem steep. Especially with the 16GB iPhone4 free on the same 24 month tariffs! Clearly the budget has gone into the Apple product. As glad as I am that I have moved from the iPhone to the SGS II and as much as I love it, at that price the iPhone would be the one I walked away with, No contest.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,367 ✭✭✭fionny

Tbh if all the networks are looking for 300euro on my level tarrif then ill just save up and buy a simfree one instead, 180 to around 220 is what i think is a fair price...

i am hoping to get this on vodafone.

  • Registered Users Posts: 109 ✭✭Lordfranto

Ok so I've mentioned June first, via a friend in carphone, some networks are starting to mention it in pricing etc! But does anyone have any info on it actually arriving on the first, I mean physically in the shop? I'm hoping it will arrive on meteor, but if it arrives on other networks at least I know it's gonna follow on meteor shortly?

Well meteor staff said mid june but i think thats only speculation, Im strongly hoping it will be out on the 1st and cheaper then that three pricing.

  • Registered Users Posts: 109 ✭✭Lordfranto

Not sure bout pricing, as far as I can remember the Sony xperia arc starts at €129 on meteor. So seeing as the s2 is a fairly superior phone in every way or just about, the pricing could be similar yo that posted for 3 pricing!
Sim free price of xperia arc in the uk is about £450 I think and I'm basing my pricing of s2 that! I hope I'm wrong but I fear not!

Im hoping you are wrong too, I might just save for the GS2 Simfree then,

Don't know why you would buy sim free, you will still save €300+ and you will need a data plan anyway, unless you have a great deal now a new deal should be better and I doubt the networks will drop prices of data plans buy a huge amount over the next 18 months! Not enough to justify shelling out an extra €300 on a som free phone anyway!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,367 ✭✭✭fionny

Well my thinking is you get a better deal on Sim only contracts which run from month to month meaning you could hop network to get the best deal available. Besides I dont like the idea of an 18month contract which pretty much keeps me on meteors doorstep.

Hmmmm, but do you get data on these plans?

Through a group scheme I'm getting a really good deal when I get the handset and switch, so much so that it really isn't worth my while paying extra cash for a sim free.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,367 ✭✭✭fionny

No doubt ill think long and hard before I buy it simfree.

I could ask work to pick it up for me and write off the VAT as business expense meaning I could get it for 482euro which is fair enough money, it would leave me open to pick up whatever handset comes out in Feb or April as there inevitably will.

I'm getting it when comes out, I'm getting in a particular shop which is offering a great deal with one provider via a group scheme. I called the guy who owns the shop today he reckons he ll have it maybe not on wedensday but def by Friday! Dunno how or where he's getting his info, but he does own the shop!
Wedensday being the first of June!

Now when you say meteor, do you mean some half wit in a shop Or from customer care, or someone with a brain cell and some authority?

Because let's face it if it's true, with meteor claiming to be the android specialists, that would make them looklike a joke!
The android specialists can't stock the best android to date at the same time as the non android specialists let alone before them!

Anybody find a good screen protector for the Galaxy S2. I tried 3 different brands and there was something wrong with them all. Two didn't fit the screen properly and the other was just terrible(full of air bubbles).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 797 ✭✭✭RonnieL

So it seems some people on here have gotten their S2's already? If so, what do you think of them? I'd be especially interested in hearing from someone who had the Galaxy S beforehand (I have the Galaxy S and I will be tempted to upgrade when they are available on meteor).

    Ha ha good question!
I phoned customer care as I was looking to upgrade and they (annoyingly) don't put the billpay upgrade prices on their website anymore. I'm not sure who exactly i was speaking to as they had to transfer me a few times (apparently they can't tell me their own prices) but it was some meteor staff member!

Id say it was some trained monkey to be quite honest. That sounds like the same gibberish they spew in the shop to get you out the door again so they can resume their angry birds game. The rule some meteor staff have adopted was it will be priced the same as the iphone 5 and will come out at the same time despite the fact that the phone is out!

Ok iPhone 5 ain't out till prob sept. And as I mentioned in an earlier post, the owner of the shop I'm getting mine in told me as far as he knows he's getting on meteor, he reckoned by next fri.
Also my mate in carphone told me he heard a rumour bout it being delayed on meteor but it was just that a rumour, nothing official from carphone the company!
