Ill leave meteor if 3 gets the Galaxy S2 first, in some ways im hoping they do as Im getting a bit tired of Meteors lack of 3g coverage, although im not looking forward to the awful indian call centres 3 use.

I really hope the networks bulldoze on fast with this.

I mostly use the 3 forum now on boards to get things resolved :)

I regularly use 1GB plus of my 2GB allowance every month.

Buddy of mine has an iPhone on PAYG with no data package, never has data services switched on, may as well have a Nokia 3210 at that stage!

I'm liking the look of that battery an awful lot. :D

Extra screen size will eat that up. I wouldn't be surprised if it actually performs worse than SGS1. Only 150 extra milliamp for about an extra square inch of screen. 4.3" is a lot of screen to light up!

Supposedly the new screen is more efficient. I'm not really worried about it being no better than the SGS1, if the new battery allows it to equal it then job done IMO.

Getting fed up with my DHD so will be using it as a second phone and just pre ordered the sgsII from clove, hopefully its not a let down!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 343 ✭✭reb73

The Samsung Galaxy SII is listed for €844.99 on expansys.ie with a likely shipping date of 18-Apr-2011!

Will be interesting to see what the prices on contract are likely to be..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 349 ✭✭Hecklar

Jayzuz, thats stupid money. surely thats not going to be the actual retail on these things. its double that of the 1st galaxy s.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,367 ✭✭✭fionny

Nah they are probably putting a "safety" price on it, I reckon it will be around 200 with a 12month contract on meteor anyway *fingers crossed*

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 803 ✭✭✭RonnieL

I got my Galaxy S in the carphone warehouse last year and I don't think any of the networks had it at that point (open to correction) so maybe that'll happen again with this phone? My current contract isn't up til July so I'm not in a massive rush. I paid €99 up front for the S on a 12 month contract at €35 a month with meteor so hopefully the S2 won't be more than €200 up front.

I just asked them on twitter if they have any dates or pricing info. I don't anticipate a detailed reply but if I get any info I'll post it here.

Reckon the S2 will start at €99 (highest monthly fee) and upto €249 (lowest monthly fee) on contract with most carriers with 18 month contracts.. Got my Galaxy S on 18 month contract last june for €49 with Meteor (€69 without discount) at 50 monthly, but go lucky with Meteor messing up their T&C's (bless the boardsie(s) who helped bring it to our attention:D) so on billpay smart lite now and can change at a month's notice!

Is that loophole still open?! I'm on contract til July but always happy to get out early, like I did with O2 last year (again thanks to Boardies!).

Sorry to throw this off topic, but what was the loophole? Im on the 35euro (12month) tarrif could I drop it to the 30euro one without modifying the length?

Don't think so.. If my recollection is correct, the changes in terms and conditions usually allow only about 30 days after which they are implicitly in place and cannot be contested. Think the loophole was voided sometime around 21-Aug-2010 :(

When carriers need to change terms and conditions, they are required under European Law to allow customers on existing contract to void the contract without any penalty if they do not agree to the revised terms and conditions.

See this to get an idea of the infamous loophole and there was another similar one in late oct 2010, the thread is here

Dont panic it has a radio see full spec here

Also available for pre-order in the UK for the 31st of March but for a hefty 649 pound sterling....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,228 ✭✭✭Breezer

I pre-ordered off Clove. They weren't supposed to charge my card until price and shipping date were confirmed, and I'd confirmed. They did. 700 bleeding euro! Anyone else get caught with this? I've emailed them to see wtf they're playing at anyway.

    Ouch,

I can't edit my original post unfortunately, but I've just heard back from Clove. Apparently this is the preauthorisation for the transaction. The money is held for 5 days but not actually taken from my account, after which it's returned to my account.

Which would explain why the transaction hasn't appeared on my statement, even though my balance has reduced by €700.

I hope this clarifies things, apologies to Clove, which from what I've seen on this forum is a very reputable company.

Still a bit silly doing this so early in the day, it would make more sense to do this 1 week before the dispatch?

Over the course of a month my balance could change a bit!

I don't have a smartphone yet but was on the verge of buying a Samsung Galaxy until I heard about the new version. Do you guys think Meteor will get it? If so, do you think it will take forever. I am so impatient and want it now but don't want to move networks.xx

I would take a rough guess and say that you wont see this phone until May at the earliest and when you do it will cost top dollar to. Unless you want to pay through the nose for this sim free dont think you will be seeing this anytime soon......an the wait continues!

Damn I was hoping it would have a FM broadcaster to go along with the FM radio for use in the car!!
why cant they put one in considering the n95 had it 2 years ago

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,367 ✭✭✭fionny

At a guess to keep size down, also to drive accessories.

Not to mention those are illegal in some countries and also given the fact that bluetooth streaming is mucho better.

I woudl very much like this phone, but as usual I would say we in Ireland will suffer and be probably 6 weeks behind UK launch, I am on O2 and am due and upgrade soon, should I hold out or go for the Galaxy S?

  • Registered Users Posts: 123 ✭✭roarlad

i spoke to someone in Carphone warehouse in the sandyford store, he said that the phone isn't even in the coming soon section of their monthly shopper's guide, which means it will be May at the earliest.

Do Meteor do upgrades, might be an option? SGS I up to SGS II!
Or if Vodafone get it I might switch back to them as I'm in my front room now and only have 1 bar, there's a reception black hole over where I live!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,367 ✭✭✭fionny

Upgrade's sure they do... but you'd have to run the majority of your contract by which time there is will be a newer phone on the market....

Were I you if you wanted to change networks id look at three, they are WAAAYYYY cheaper then rip off vodafones ****ty tarrifs.

Expansys always had crazy prices for their stock, but I guess we don't have that much choice here, do we?

Once again... that isnt a crazy price, this is a brand spanking new phone and that price is unsubsidised.

    Look at the fruitphone 4:

    http://www.expansys.ie/apple-iphone-4-16gb-uk-black-200797/
    or
    http://store.apple.com/ie/configure/MC603B/A?mco=MTgxNTgyMjI

Thats a phone which has a flawed design and is restricted up the yin yang aswell as being 7 months on the market.
