good quality and reasonable price, light, got 2 and must get 2 more for the kids,i think 49euro each, cant fault them, fits exactly into the ryanair guide, wen they saw the name on the bag the last time we flew they just waved us on,never checked them

Does the bag come with that big logo printed across the front? Looks a bit ugly, especially on 'business black'.

They seem to be working out at €35.47 now and not sold direct by amazon any more, so its not coming up with the free delivery, I'm afraid to go any further through the checkout in case I buy it.

The same crowd seem to sell them through ebay too http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Cabin-Max-Backpack-Flight-Approved-Bag-massive-44-litre-/220755208327?pt=UK_SportingGoods_BackpacksRucksacks_Bags_EH&hash=item3366092887 but they seem to be about £32 that way.

The IKEA case is quite heavy and I have a heavy case already so no advantage in getting that.

Has anyone found a similar product for €30 or less lately?

Well, they dont weigh or measure you do they? :D

No, but you have to remove jackets and they get x-rayed, plus you have to walk through a scanner and may be padded down when you do!

the best investment's I have made ryanair wise.

    1) a bag scale (dunnes, an extortionate €10 & I wish I got a digital)

I bought this scale about a year ago ,works perfect and is accurate.free postage so works out less than €4.50 .

Nothing illegal being concealed - just carried as part of a coat as opposed to the carry bag. This is to beat Ryanair, not security - they couldnt care less whether you carry your stuff in your coat or your carry on; so long as its not illegal.

Plus you could still have your carry on too and have a good stash in your pockets too:D

I got this one today in Debenhams for €54, meets all Ryanair requirements, reduced from €150

You might as well weigh the product itself and let us know if Amazon have the correct weight :)

I just checked my newly purchased Cabin Max Backpack with my luggage scale and it is only 600g :)

Available here for £30 with free delivery to Ireland * :

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B002Q5APX4/ref=pd_luc_mri?ie=UTF8&m=A2ODPP090AKJCG

    * When you see "Delivered FREE in the UK with Super Saver Delivery" and it is over £25 that means it is free delivery in Ireland.

BTW I don't recommend bags with wheels, it only adds weight and takes up space that you could use for storing more stuff. Serious travelers use backpacks.

The Cabin Max Backpack bag is a very good bag for the money. Would do a good job for a few days abroad. However I don't think it is quiet sturdy enough for a month long trek through Asia.

If you are looking for a sturdy bag, for long trips, they most people rave about the MEI "Voyageur". A very, very strong, well built, sturdy bag with a padded hipbuilt:

    http://www.meivoyageur.com/

Unfortunately it is a very expensive bag, doubly so as it is hand made in the USA, so involves expensive postage and import duty. But supposed to be well worth it, a bag you buy once and use for the rest of your life.

BTW An excellent site dedicated to people who only travel with one carry on bag:

    http://www.onebag.com/

+1 for the Cabin Max backpack - I was in the US 3 weeks ago and it was only half full going with clothes for the week (leaving plenty of the space for stuff I got over there coming home ;)).

Light as a feather, very handy being able to throw it on your back when queuing for food, especially when you need both hands for a tray.

+1 for the Cabin Max, and bk is right, it's free delivery even though Amazon will tell you that you order 'partially qualifies' for free delivery, because the bag is 'fulfilled by Amazon' whatever that means, you do actually get free delivery once you finish your order.

Might look at it again so, thanks :)

BTW i was in blanchardstown today, debenhams have a nice Tripp case at max dimensions for cabin luggage reduced from 170something to 52 euro. It weighed over 3kg though.

Penneys have got on the bandwagon too and have a shiny plastic looking yoke for 24 euro. Its not light either though I cant remember if the weight was printed on any of the tags

heatons have cabin sized bags for 18 euro and theres 20%off this weekend,i also bought one in penneys for 16 euro weighing 2.5kg

Do not be fooled by this advertised price reduction. Tripp cases have been there for some time and were NEVER priced near 170, and when you inspect the quality, you will see that 52 is no bargain either.

I tried purchasing this but once I hit checkout and enter my password it shows delivery at £5.95, up until that point it said free delivery, next step is to 'place your order', I really want it now, guess I'll just have to pay the delivery!

Can confirm the Cabinmax is free delivery now the order is being fulfilled by Amazon as I just ordered a second bag (fulfilled means Amazon allow the retailer to store their product in an Amazon warehouse so quicker shipping for us), pity it went up to £30 though

I ordered it earlier in the week and it said free delivery up until I paid, then I was charged £5.95, emailed the retailer and the said they only offer free delivery on shipments to UK. Ah well, hopefully it will be worth the £35.95 when I get it!

If anyone wants to read more about or see lots of pictures of the Cabin Max bag, I wrote about it on my blog after getting them for my family.

We can now take 40kg's and 176L of luggage on ryanair for free!

The link should be in my profile, I think. otherwise just google 'biggest hand luggage' etc.

I get lots of emails from people who rave about them, as do I! Agree with above though, its a shame that they went up a fiver.

Still, when compared to a trip in the hold, £30 still makes sense.

    Travel light!

Just bought a backpack in Dunnes for 8 euro. Seems to be kind of modelled on the cabin max. Had my measuring tape with me and should work perfect. It has compression straps on the sides. Light as anything but tested the straps seems sturdy enough. BTW several other dunnes cases marked as lightweight or cabin friendly are just a touch too big when measured.

Too late for Galadriel but for anyone ordering one - Free delivery definitely available (just ordered one).

You have to go to last page just before you hit the final confirm payment button.

amazon automatically selects standard delivery but if you click on supersave delivery the postage costs are zero.

    1) a bag scale (dunnes, an extortionate €10 & I wish I got a digital)
    2) a bag that fits ryanairs carry on size (Quicksilver, 2kg, €49, tk maxx - I measured it before purchase)
    3) a prepaid mastercard saved me €20 on an upcoming trip.

also a very light weight back pack that can be stuffed into ryanairs restrictive 20cm width dimension.

Personally I think Ryanair are great. but play them at their own game.

Great post. Just got the prepaid card. Off to nab a scales today. I love Ryanair, they have their faults, but like it says above; play them at their own game. Game on.

    What about this? [eBay link].

I haven't bought it but it's 54x30x20cm and weights 500g - shipping is quite significant as it is coming from the UK. Has anyone used one like this or think it's a good deal?

its a great bag,I dont think you can really over pack it and stay under the 10kg limit(if you know what I mean).A little expensive imo.

How about this bag, only problem is it weights 2.2kg.

Have it. Perfect size/weight. Compression straps help if overpacked. Also if its bulging then you simply have packed too much in it!

Probably not the most comfortable shoulder straps, but suffices nonetheless especially if you have your hands full with other things eg kids, other cases etc.

I have the bag-had it jammed with a weeks worth f clothes for me and a 6 year old(so loads for her) Thought it looked massive but Ryanair didnt even ask to weigh it-they did pull loads of people out of the queue though-I was at the very front and we stood watching loads get pulled. Also had charger for macbook and camcorder(and all the bits)

Capacity is 20 litres. Exact Ryanair size will get you just over double that at 40 odd litres!

I saw one in Heatons for €17 - it's 53x35x20cm (including wheels, although the depth is a bit nearer 20.5cm than 20cm due to the protruding plastic wheels - would this be ok?). (note: I measured this myself, the label says something considerably smaller)

Is the one on Amazon (the £35 44L one) out of stock?

Edit: What about this? Claims to be 55x40x20cm (all parts included) , 39L capacity and 1.2kg. The reviews aren't great though - apparently loses balance easy when using the wheels

  • Moderators, Motoring & Transport Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 23,110 Mod ✭✭✭✭bk

Unless you have a disability, I don't recommend getting a bag with wheels and handle. They simply add weight and take up space that could be used to carry more clothes.

Most people should be able to carry 10kg without difficulty.

As others have said, this is a great bag, super light so you can fit more clothes/stuff in, as opposed to some of the other bags with wheels where a fifth of your allowance is used up by the bag itself.

I found it quite comfortable to carry around and the compression is very good too, definitely one of my best purchases.

Bought two of these in Argos, great bags. We used them for a weeks holiday. Ryanair didn't even check the weights. The case looks small, but you can fit a lot in. We also take a roll up vacuum bag and put the clothes in them coming home, allowing room for any souvenirs.

reserved two of these today. For 16 euro it seems to be a bargain going by the 110 reviews. Would have preferred to go for one of the online ones but left it too late as I'm travelling Thursday.

It looks good all the same, cheers to whoever spotted it!

The 44L Amazon Bag is back in stock, now reduced to £24.95 , but as it's below £25 I don't think it qualifies for free shipping anymore and when I go to order it it's coming up as ~£5.50 postage + packaging.

Is there anyway to get free delivery on this, as it says £24.95 + FREE SHIPPING in the top right corner (probably referring to the US).

Just buy something really cheap to bring you over the £25, make sure it's supplied directly by amazon themselves, a book or cd/dvd that you want anyway will bring you over and basically be free given the £5.50 postage you're currently being charged. Make sure it's in stock too or it could delay your shipping.

Thanks, but I tried that and it says only "part of the order qualifies for free Super Saver delivery", and it tries to charge shipping for the Cabin Max Bag + the relevant postage costs for the other item (as it is not over £25).

Ordered Cabinmax bag from Amazon yesterday - good deal at 24.95 but was a bit peeved that I had to pay the postage! Lets hope it's worth it!:D

  • Registered Users Posts: 212 ✭✭stoves1

The reason they are charging for delivery is that this supplier is not amazon but an amazon external retailer, whether or which this cabin bag was £35 last week including delivery, then went out of stock, now back in stock via a retailer, having done a lot of research on this product looks like very good value, i ordered two yesterday which cost me 2*25 pounds plus £5 postage so total £55.00 delivered to dublin.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 241 ✭✭quinnthebin

Bought one a few weeks ago when price was 29.95 - this was 'fulfilled by amazon' and so qualified for free delivery - guess new price adds up to about the same when postage taken into account so don't feel so bad now :)

Very Happy with purchase - quite strong considering its light weight.
