I don't think so. There are FF canvassers putting out the same line of thought on doorsteps throughout the nation, all you have to do is listen to the radio every day. You'd swear FF were not in government for the last 13.5 years.

Youre right unfortunately. I think i'm just in denial that they still exist!

Just to add that there are two other candidates I can think of off the top of my head who were entrepreneurs, (and still have small businesses), before entering politics.
Noel Grealish, set up and operates Galway Glass.
Tom Welby, not sure what business he owns in Oughterard, think it is a supermarket?

Michael Crowe owns a few houses which he rents to the corpo as use for local authority housing.
Im sure he is being nicely rewarded for that.

If I put an ad in the paper which said I was 'Bright', 'Competent', 'Experienced' people would rightly say that I was full of crap. That Kind of thing is for others to decide.
Mike Crowe represents all that is wrong with Irish politics.
I had to laugh this week when I read through his 'list of achievements' in his ad in The Sentinel. He's claiming credit for a whole host of new jobs in Co. Galway which were created by the IDA and have absolutely nothing to do with the Mayor of Galway.
Maybe he made a few calls or he went along with the ceremonial chain to the opening.
What's the expression? Self praise is no praise!
He started off as an Independent but then joined the toxic party which has been in power for the best part of 25 years.
He'll arrange with some official to fix your pothole, shake your hand, go to your father's funeral, but he has no vision for how to fix this country and Canvasser's posts show the sheer arrogance of a party which, like Mubarrak, has been in power for far too long.
Crowe is a landlord with God knows how many properties, he hardly relates to the 'common' man or woman struggling to pay off one mortgage.
In his ads and his posters, he tries to distance himself from Fianna Fail, because even he realises how toxic this party has been for our country.
People like canvasser make me sick when they say that other parties would have handled the financial crisis no differently.
    Really?
Did Labour and SF have a 'tent' at the races where property developers could pally with the ruling class?
Would they have been so close to the bankers and developers during the so-called boom? (Isn't it amazing how many FFers have multiple property portfolios all over the place).
Do the other parties play golf and drink in clubs with the heads of toxic banks?
Did they make a bank guarantee to their buddies, the likes of which no other country in the world has come up with? And for which we will be paying the price for years?
Fianna Fail is toxic and Mike Crowe is one of them.
He and his like are just what Galway West doesn't need in the Dail.

Would that be the same FF Michael Crowe, Lord Mayor of Galway that was ran out of Galway and booed?

Well said celty. At stunt_penguin - i think there are a few FF trollers appearing on boards. I hope they are trolls anyways or I'd be exetremly worried if they and others alike were for real. Maybe FF has planted these people on boards in hope of finding a floating voter.

Looking over the OPs posts its clear that he is closely connected to Michael Crowe and also canvasses for him.

Therefore based on this trolls posts I will not be voting for Michael Crowe as if this is the caliber of person that Michael Crowe chooses to represent him at the voting peoples doors then NO THANKS

The OP is on a roll today, he has been banned from After Hours too for arguing about Labours stance on Pro-choice/Abortion.

did anyone spot the ignorant frank fahey promotion at the Corrib great southern yesterday? he had a huge promotion poster with his gomy head on it and extra large writing about the "outer city bypass" and "let's go" as if the project has even got as far as the design stage yet!!! *see link for proof of up to €20,000,000 having been spent already and not even a plan drawn up ffs!!

anyway the massive poster was down as of last night and must have been put up again only to be ripped down again and this time shredded beyond repair.

I remember reading a post by 'Canvasser' last week in which he / she / it said he was close to an up and coming candidate, who was getting a great reception in the city. He wouldn't divulge who it was.

It's the sheer neck of these people that infuriates me.

Listen, your party has BANKRUPT OUR COUNTRY, SOLD OUR OUR SOVERIEGNTY and your precious Crowe describes HIMSELF as BRIGHT and COMPETENT.

That's for us to decide and the sooner self-serving scumbags get out of Irish politics the better for this country.

I won't be voting FF and I'd love it of Frankeeeen or Michaeleeeeeen come calling to my door. Well, maybe it's better if they dont.

Meh. Crowe has thrown his lot in with FF so he is toxic.
No preferences for him or his buddies.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,619 ✭✭✭ilovesleep

About the outer city bypass - are there any other candidates that are for the bypass. I know many people would want a bypass, and for those who do want it please dont throw your vote away to FF.

Ah come on, the scheme has been completely designed. Half of the bypass has full planning permission (the section from the M6 to the Moycullen Road) and the other half has alternatives being worked on to avoid the controversial bog cotton area. The whole thing is stuck in the courts though so it's not ready to go by any means... Fahy is such a chancer but that advertiser article just shows up Walsh as being clueless as well...

That's probably the most anti-democratic thing I've heard during this or indeed any election. Including anything said by "we have a private army" Sinn Feinn.

Well done sir or madam. Take a bow for revealing your true colours....

True. Mubarak would have been proud of Canvasser. Maybe he should have gone out to Egypt to keep him in power, a better chance than the Bohermore mafia getting elected!

The scum who bankrupted my country won't be getting my vote.

This is perhaps the most important election in the history of the state.

Please don't throw away votes based on a road.

Thats what i am saying. i couldnt give a damn about galway roads or any road for that matter but people do feel strongly about the outer city bypass (i dont). Would people give a vote to the party promising this road?

Would Crowe be a 'candidate with business 'experience' ' selling Buckfast out of a corner shop on the westside and who later condemned corner shops selling Buckfast after he was elected .

Or was that someone else entirely ????

First of all, full disclosure, I'm a friend of Mike Crowe's and will be helping him out over the next two weeeks. I usually just 'lurk' these forums but I felt this thread went too far so I registered to respond.
Second of all, there is no way this thread was started by anyone associated with Mike, no one associated with Mike is crazy enough to think such a thread would help! In fact, I would wager it was started by one of his opponents to hurt Mike. As we always hear, politics is a dirty game.
Finally, I'd like to attempt to address some of the points made.

Spongebob - He didn't condemn corner shops selling buckfast, he merely stated too many teenagers were getting their hands on it too easily and too cheaply so putting a tax on it, as had previously been done with Alcopops would be a good idea.

As for owning houses, yes Mike owns some houses but I think you will find this is common across parties, at least two candidates in Galway west own much more and that's just two I know about.

Einshteen - He wasn't suggesting cutting down trees to get rid of the homeless but rather suggesting cutting down trees in an area where alcoholics and drug users were prominent and constantly leaving the place in a mess. Obviously the press release could have been better phrased but Mike has probably released a couple of hundred of these over his time in politics and people always remember the one you don't take sufficient care with.

I never voted for FF before 2007, having previously been a McCormack man but I think you guys are being overly harsh to be honest. I wouldn't be voting for FF Mike wasn't part of government and their failings over the last few years. It's not like he had the option to leave them either or everyone would have accused him of populism. Even a well established poster, Alibabba, who has no intention of voting for him said he was a genuine guy who always listens.

I can understand anyone not voting for FF, but for Mike I wouldn't be. I genuinely think he is a good candidate, otherwise I wouldn't be asking friends to support him. He's a young guy who understands business and who has innovative ideas, eg. Intoducing Chinese to second level education. Let's face it, English is the language of commerce across Europe, from an economic standpoint, learning French/German doesn't offer close to the same benefits as Chinese, who are going to biggest economic power in the world soon.

Anyway that's my view, don't get too mad at the newbie! :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 370 ✭✭celty

Yeah, learning Chinese would be great, seeing as how FF have sold out our soverignty and bankrupt the place. An entire generation will have to emigrate thanks to his cronies, just like my generation did in the 1980s. They had their chance, and they blew it.

It's the NECK of these FF canvassers that gets me. If I bankrupt the company I work for, I don't think I would call around to all the shareholders asking them to keep me on running it.

That's the problem with Irish politics, so many people with huge necks and no vision. 'Fumbling in the greasy tills'.

Go on, Mike ... buy up all your properties. That's just what Galway needs, another auctioneer in the Dail.

Don't give me this crap about being young and not in Government. If you join the party of Haughey, Ahern, Lenihan, and Cowen, (liars, corrupt, and incompetent) then you deserve to get abuse on the doorstep if you go around asking people to vote for Crowe or Fahey.

These people wouldn't even admit that the IMF were in Dublin when everyone knew they was. Our country was shamed all around the world.

And you want us to vote for a man who somehow wants to pretend that he had something to do with the creation of new jobs which had absolutely nothing to do with him.

Don't insult our intelligence. Give us a break.
