Hey all looking for some general info on this as i haven't dyed before! So i have fairly dark hair (darker than dirty blonde) and i was looking at dying it electric blue for Shave or Dye. Now i was chatting to a mate who said that for blue my hair would have to be bleached lots as any original colour would make it kinda sicky green. So my question is is there any mental colour that i could colour my hair that is a little bit on the safer side? For example he said that if i went green it wouldn't require as much effort or bleach and last a bit longer too. Any info on all this would be greatly appreciated.

I will upload a pic of my hair as this might help when i get a chance

With all those 'crazy' colours, the best results are achieved when the hair is bleached first.

I'm not too up to date with the Shave or Dye thing but how long do you want this to last?

You could try using one of the XXL colours and dying it red?

The only problem with that is that red fades very quickly.

Yeah, I've found it necessary to bleach it first too, both with my hair which is naturally red, and a friends, which is naturally dark.
I don't know where you're based, but you can get the stuff for bleaching in Terrisales in Dublin, they also sell the 'mad' colours last time I checked. Bear in mind they are usually semi permanant and will fade considerably over time. But of course at soem point, yoi may be dyeing back to your natural colour.

Good luck and fair play for taking part! :)

I'm aiming for 6-8 weeks, I don't see much point in doing it for charity if I can quickly wash it out. I guess I can always top it up though! @Stench Blossoms does the hair have to completely bleached in order for all colours or are there ones that can cover some original colour. I only ask as I heard if I go blue and I don’t have the hair completely bleached it can go horrible colours. I hear red, green and purple are the easiest is this true?

@dearg lady, yeah I’m living up in Donegal and its not the easiest place to get everything you need or have the choice that you would have in the cities but fingers crossed either boots or one of the hairdresser supplier places up here will have what I need

I’m just looking for any info on hair colours as the only time I’ve done it before was them silly sprays that come off in an hour!

Well that's the thing about the unusual colours, they never do really last very long and require a lot of maintenance.

Here is some info on the Crazy Colours. There is some instructions on the page.

Generally the hair dressers supply places are cheaper, and you can get large bottles of what you need, I know we needed to do 2 bleaches to strip the colour first. Now you might not need to do that (my hair is a pain to strip the colour out of!!)

As regards Keeping it for a while, yes they do fade, you would probably need to top it up, but I'd say you should get three weeks out of it, so one top up might do ya :)
