Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I have been out of the unlocking Android scene since I had my Hero, my Desire is factory unlocked.

I might be getting my hands on a Desire HD from Vodafone, I want to unlock it but am having a hard time finding the info I need.

Is my only option to pay a SIM unlocking service?

    Cheers

Have you tried putting another Sim card in yet? I had the same problem, put a meteor Sim in and it was already unlocked.

The story is this, a friend is moving to Vodafone from O2, going on the Business Solo UK plan with add ons of Data and text. Total bill will be aprox €120ex VAT per month for unlimited Irish and UK calls.

He wanted an iphone 4 but they wanted €329, we laughed. They are doing all other phones free.

So the plan was for me to buy the Desire HD from him and he then buy an iphone 4 or 3Gs.

Its total messing around and a pain in the rear end.

Yes, he will be getting the Desire HD for free from Vodafone on the SoloUK contract...............

If they will just give him the unlock code, why do they even bother locking them at all?

Cheers for your help so far guys.

Not sure what the problem is here. You're already a seasoned rooter, so this should be pretty straight forward for you. :)

    1. Since it's branded, you need to create a goldcard for your phone (a micro SD card with some code written to it to trick the phone into thinking it's unbranded)

    2. Downgrade the phone from 1.7x to 1.35 (required to install a custom ROM).

    3. Install a custom ROM (if you want).

See my thread on the subject here. If you have any questions, I'll help if I can.

Thanks for the help, I did not want to have to go down the rooting route for a number of reasons. I dont mind having the stock rom as long as its not Vodafone branded......

Anyway I think I will have the phone on Thursday, I will report back in case anyone else is in the same situation in the future.

I don't know if it's an option, but if he upgrades via Carphone Warehouse, the phone will be unbranded (I upgraded there, and mine has no VF branding).

    Update............

Got the phone today, it seems to be a stock ROM apart from a Vodafone logo that appears after the HTC logo on boot up.

Its unlocked, tried a Three sim in it and there was no problems.
